2011 Mazda RX-7 Coupe Rendering Speculations

|
We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve heard rumors about a successor to the iconic Mazda RX-7. And here we are once again with a new set of -virtually identical- renderings scanned from two different Japanese car magazines that state Mazda will reveal a fourth generation RX-7 Coupe in 2010. While the mags may have their sources, officially, Mazda has never said anything about a new RX-7.

The only thing that Mazda has announced is that it will reveal a significantly revised version of its rotary engine with more power and improved economy in the early 2010s. Now, if that engine will be used on a new model like the RX-7 is something to be seen. We certainly hope so… -One more image after the jump

Unless it is a 3 rotor engined rotary Mazda, with at least 350hp, I will not buy another Mazda rotary car.

I am fed up with Mazda's timid approaches, the 20B motor has been in production since the 80s, with the Mazda Cosmo, but still Mazda insists on these small version 2 rotor cars.

I have seen a lot of rotary enthusiasts wait and wait for 2 decades for a super powered rotary engine car, but most have abandoned ship, or I should say, Mazda abandoned its loyal followers, refusing to furnish a real power rotary engine.

If this RX7 has no 3 rotors and if it has less than 350hp, then I predict Mazda rotary will disappear, people in the sports car scene want power, you can not humilliate rotary fans with 200 hp 2 rotor engines when the competition ( Subarus, Toyotas, Nissans, ETC...) is already at 350+hp figures.

An RX7 with a 20B will not be in the $25K category that Mazda is shooting for. It will also not meet the new stricter government MPG standards that take are going to be going into affect. Its not a matter of whether Mazda can or can not put a 20B in the RX7, because it can, but not many people would be willing to pay $35k+ for a car that gets 12mpg city and 18mpg highway. Poor fuel economy and high sicker price are some of the reasons the RX7 stopped selling in the US.

And just to compare for example. The Mazdaspeed 3 has almost 100tq and 40hp more than the RX8, but its only .03 seconds faster than the RX8 around Laguna Seca.

The point is that Mazda is capable of putting out a monster 20B Nissan GTR eater which I seriously believe there is a huge market out there. People who are looking into such performance levels are not at all concerned about the fuel economy. If only Mazda listen to what people would like to have.

Mazda needs to come out with a 20B, that is been around before i was even born because other vehicles are coming out with more than 300hp and the rotary engine is still at its low 230. that is a joke to me. i love rotary engines but 2 rotors are old school. many people i know are getting their hands on 20B engines (im next). even the hyundai genesis comes with 302 hp. MAZDA PLEASE LISTEN TO US>

I saw and heard the RX7-792 GTP 4 rotor car race at Del Mar, CA in the 90's. Not only was it a gorgeous looking car, but the sound that it made coming out of the corners was unbelievable. It sounded like someone ripping a piece of paper. The piston engine cars were lame in comparison.

Now I know that a 4 rotor car is extremely unlikely. But come on. A 2 rotor is "2" little. I agree with all of the previous comments. The 3 rotor engine is way overdue. I bought a Toyota Camry 4 cylinder for the family. But I dream and wait for the day when I can buy the 3 rotor.

I had an '85 RX-7 GSL-SE and drove it 'til it dropped at 175,000 miles. I still have dreams that my car is still running and then I wake up disappointed to realize that it was only a dream. My son bought a '95 RX-8. The RX-8 has a lot more torque, HP, and fun factor than my RX-7 ever had.

In the the meantime I will save some gas money up for the 3 rotor RX-7. I will be the first in line to order one. So Mazda can count on me. Can I count on them ?
