BMW M5 Ute Conversion Completed – Full Image Gallery

|
BMW M5 UteNearly two years ago, in December 2006 we told you about an Australian fella that had just begun transforming a previous generation BMW M5 sedan (E95) into the ultimate V8-powered Ute (see here). Now the proud owner of the Down-Under El-Camino, Stuart Appleby from New South Wales, Australia announced that the BMW M5 Ute project has finally been completed. -Continued

While the vehicle has yet to be dyno-tested, the builders are saying that the M5’s tuned 4.9-liter V8 could make as much as 460 HP. Even though the conversion of an M5 into a Ute will certainly seem like sacrilege to many gearheads, we must admit that it is a very well executed one.

Please, please, please no! All it needs now is a twenty-four pack of piss-water beer in the bed to make it official.

i love it!! nicest truck IVE ever seen, but why did it have to be an M5?

Anonymous said... »October 08, 2008

Surely this can't be Stuart Appleby the Australian professional golfer who owns several Ferrari's and is known to be an enthusiast.

I can't imagine this kind of thing would be his style.

Anonymous said... »October 08, 2008

It IS him. I reckon it looks pretty damn good though for a ute.

Nicely executed. Well thought of detail has been put into this vehicle. I'd hate to see how much tail swing it has and if it can actually load anything of use, that an ute normally could.

Nevertheless ... at least now this BMW M5 is unique and it's the only competitor to the Holden that is also down under (which btw, is coming out as a Pontiac here in the states).

Hey Rick, we have Ford Aus making utes of similar dimensions as the Holden.

This is about the conversion, being unique, a one of, its the engineering that goes into it. Not much different in concept to building a hot rod or any other car. This just would have taken a ute load of cash to do.

It is a very nice ute, and a nice M5 IMO.

@ Rick W., Ford sell utes here, after all, they have a good claim to having invented the things!

"The turbocharged 4.0-litre F6 produces 310kW at 5500rpm and 565Nm of torque at 1950-5200rpm, an increase of 40kW and 15Nm."

From http://www.weeklytimesnow.com.au/article/2008/08/20/469_motoring.html

Yes, it's the Ford Ute Downunder. The XR6T will keep up with the HSV V8 in most cases.

And if you google "V8 ute racing" you'll find we race Ford and Holden utes down here as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_Utes

And with luck, maybe you'll get to see a broadcast of the Great Race at Bathurst this Sunday! (not utes though, sedans).

Oh my god... Oh my god... I'm going to vomit... This is too disgusting to be true... Really??? Really now??? Poor M5...

Anonymous said... »October 09, 2008

I think all these who dismiss the vehicle in question are queer! After all, who, if any of them, could do something with such presicion and turn out such a beautifully engineered job?

I should say none of them, becaus ethey are too busy quaffing latte's and posting "poor beemer" on websites they visited because they have no mates.

Me? I am a genius with cars in Scotland, but this is God's work.

Well done that man.

The disagree-ers, go to the salong and have your arses bleached and your pubes waxed. Geez!

hey guys.
yes this is Stuart Appelbys.
i was on a rally earlier this early down in Deniliquin, and part of the festival was we got to go to the shop where this was made. it was fantastic to see in the flesh. although the image that we saw was it with no paint, 3 wheels, and no interior or engine. lol it has come along way. and only with the millions of dollars he spent on it.
all of that aside i like it :)

Hey Aus guys, we know Ford makes utes, too. The problem is, they're Fords...take a look at U.S. market Fords right now. Aside from the Mustang and the SD trucks, they're universally boring, slow, unreliable trash, with a recent history of suddenly bursting into flames.
And BTW, the "boring, slow" part of that comment is coming from a Buick owner...

Anonymous said... »October 11, 2008

As the man said earlier, if you can't appreciate the engineering/ethos go get your arse bleached.

Its the ultimate truck, which will handle, probably a strange ord for Americans to understand.

@DaltonUltr

Well, if only Ford US would wake up and realise that GM are onto a good thing by importing our aussie Commodore's and badging them as Pontiac's. If they did similar with our Falcon's, then maybe they would have some exciting fast Fords over there too eh?

wtf can you get out of a person who can't spell "Beamer" right?

Anonymous said... »October 17, 2008

Bimmer - proper accepted slang for BMW cars. Most people don't know this. See above post.

Beamer/Beemer - proper accepted slang for BMW motorcycles. You will hear this term used incorrectly by many people.

Bimmer/Beamer/Beemer... there is no such thing as proper slang, people just make it up. You just made the world stupider.

Car is cool, for a Beemer...

I own the VE HSV Maloo and i love it, This BMW is also a fantastic ute, but i got to hand it to those Blue Oval boys, I was amazed at how easy my Sisters Hubby can eat my Maloo alive with his F6 Ute, it truly does have enough torque to change the direction of the Earth's rotation!!

And as Far as American motors go, Both GM and Ford are extremely limited in the form of exciting vehilces, GM has the Z06, and ford has the GT Supercar, I drove a few vehicles whilst i was over there last year on business and was not impressed with handling or power to weight ratios! America has now lost its Muscle car image forever, they now take a back seat to the Germans and the Japanese and hopefully oneday.... the Aussies haha (but i doubt it, we keep getting power levels capped)

The US Fords and GM/Holden here in Australia are opposite for reliability, the older model Holdens here are know to suddenly burst into flames!
