Corvette Sideswipe Transformer Makes Official Debut at Chicago Show

After all the rumors and more leaks than a New Orleans levy, the wait is over for General Motors' latest Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept that will play the role of 'Sideswipe' in the next Transformers movie dubbed "Revenge of the Fallen" due for release on June 26, 2009. Stylistically inspired by the original Corvette Stingray race car, introduced in 1959, the Autobot concept also draws on Corvette heritage cues from other generation models to create a shape that we wouldn't mind seeing influencing the next Vette.

"SIDESWIPE represents an exercise in exploration for the Corvette," said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. "By giving my creative team the freedom to design no-holds-barred vision concepts, it helps them push boundaries and look at projects from different perspectives."

Stay tuned on Carscoop as we'll be bringing you more news from GM's Transformer stand at the Chicago Auto Show, including the first official photos of the Autobot-ized Chevy Volt.

Saw this yesterday at Chicago auto show... It's all that and a box of cookies. I hope some of these Stingray cues make it to the C7 - random old ladies were talking about how much more *Corvette* this prototype was than the production cars next to it!

WHY DONT THEY MAKE IT!Those guys in general motors are COMPLETE morons! They present alla these fabulous prototypes like the Cadillac sixteen and this corvettes, and they only put into production caddys for grandmothers with crappy handling and plastic dashboards!

Now this is what a corvette should look like. Pushing the bounds like they used to do not just simple small changes they have done over the last few years. This car is stunning, they should take a chance to build something truly unigue and show the world what American GM can do. I love it!!! It reminds me of my 1971 Stingray I used to own!

Is very nice

I am very sad that Corvette has finally given in to the retro histeria. It WAS on it's way to being world class. It's back to American kitch. It's pretty. But nothing else. It's not's lack of design. They should have confined the retro camp to the blue collar camaro. How many old ladies are buying 'vettes these days? -R.

I forgot to say, though, that it is nice that Chevy is putting ugly grills in everything. It will make a nice "first" upgrade to differentiate your own from the stockers. I don't know what their deal is with the big grid thing they have going on. -R.

I would buy this in a New York minute. This is the only Corvette I like the looks of as much as my Ford GT (the supercar...not the Mustang).

But, good luck seeing anything even close to this in your driveway. 'Probably just a big "tease", and that's about it.

Nice but the front is Citroen GT-like for me.Isn't it?

Fantastic, when can I order one?

Anonymous said... »June 20, 2009

Any one who doesn't like this is an idiot. They Really need to build this car. GM needs something like this to gain some respect again.

The only question I have is, will it stay within the corvettes reputation for being a world class supercar for under $100,000?

This is the most beautiful corvette I have seen yet. I love it and if people can't see the beauty in this car they are just plain stupid. I want one now. I am ready to trade my 2006 corvette in for this beauty.

That's the first american sports car i've wanted to buy. Figures GM won't ever build it.

Just Build It!
It Fcukin Rocks!
About time. Only the muscular Z06 and Zr1 look like they have balls. Base Vettes look thin and weak.

If anyone in GM had a brain the Buick Riveria concept would have been built along with many fantastic concepts. What gives with this management team. Are they getting paid off by some one to be stupid.
