European Mugen Honda Civic Type-R Hatchback: First Official Photos

|
This story just came in so we don't have all the details yet, but according to a translated teaser press release from Honda's in-house tuning division, these are the first photos of the Euro-spec Mugen Honda Civic Type-R 3d that is slated to be launched in Europe this summer. The release does not explain if what we're seeing here is simply an aero-kit or as it has been rumored, a complete conversion with mechanical and styling upgrades. However, we do know that the famed tuning firm calls the concept 'Premium Super Sport' - if that tells you anything.

Mugen Honda Civic Type-R EuropeanIn typical Mugen-fashion, the tuning firm has readied a rather aggressive bodykit for the futuristic-looking Euro-spec Civic Type-R 3d, which in standard form is powered by a 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine churning out 200HP to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The aero parts include a massive rear-wing, side skirts, twin hood scoops, a new rear apron with an integrated diffuser and two Jumbo-size tail-pipes, a blacked out Mugen grille, new front bumper with an integrated lip spoiler and wider fenders housing side air-vents plus gunmetal gray multispoke alloy wheels.

When will Honda Offer higher Specs (Turbo maybe), it looks good, but is the triangles in the front bumper(the ones far from the middle) for better air-intake.

Isn't the wing a bit OVER sized, or couldn't they just placed a smaller(less weight X10) like the one on the Impreza WRX STI (making a hatchback is meant to lose as much weight as possible).

'In the End It Doesn't Even Matter' cuz its a VTec a flying lil Japanese car .

To those who have driven the European Civic, how does this car compare to its competitors? Here in North America the Honda Civic is near the top in its class. We just don't get all those similar cars from other car makers like in Europe.

Would like to hear some comments.

i am a owner of a ep3 type r. i have driven this car and it is really nice to drive slow. but if you like to drive fast the rear suspension is really bad compared to my civic and you simply feel the lack of power because of the increased weihgt. the car was tested in different mags here in germany and compared to cars like golf gti, focus st, audi a3. it never won a test. but german mags are biased. the only test i remember he won was with tim schrick a german racing driver. you can find it on youtube. he was totally in love with this car :) his statement was that the type r is the only real racing hatchback.
