A Carscoop reader dropped these patent drawings of an unnamed Dodge SUV model in our mailbox last night. We performed a search of our own and can confirm that the images are indeed authentic.
And while there's always a possibility that we are wrong here, but from what we can tell by comparing the drawings to the latest scoops from around the web, it appears that the SUV - Crossover - CUV (take your pick) featured here is the 2012 Dodge Durango, or whatever else the Chrysler Group decides to call this model.
If you follow the jump and click the respective links, you'll see that the so-called 2012 (or 2011) Durango seen in the spy shots shares many styling cues with the vehicle pictured in these patent drawings.
These include the pronounced arches on the front and rear fenders, the shape of the window frames and the exhaust pipes. Even though under cover, the shape and styling of the headlamps and tail lights also imply that this is the same vehicle.
It is believed that the new Dodge CUV will make use of a lengthened version of the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee's platform, which itself is derived from the latest Mercedes-Benz ML.
That said, the Dodge model will most likely be offered with the same 3.6-liter Pentastar and 5.7-liter V8 churning out 280HP and 360HP respectively, found on the 2011 Grand Cherokee.

Look like Toyota Fortuner
Needs larger crosshair grill to more readily repeal buyers.
looks like a cross between a bmw x5 and the new dodge ram it just might work
from the front it looks like a cheap dodge ram, from the rear its an X5 knockoff, and overall it looks disgusting. thanks Obama. our taxpayer money went to design that. this will surely help Chrysler stand on their own two feet again. bra-vo.
Looks good. There are tons of Chargers here in Florida. This looks like it may lend some conistency to their design. I would have bought one of these in 2005 had they built it a little wider. Not for the common reason. The B-pillars were too narrow in the shoulders for me. hopefully they make this one a little wider then the current model.
Now, will it be a Dodge or a Ram? What does the new Dodge logo look like?
P.S. Wordpress is insane. I'm logged in and it tells me that I don't own my identity...

Toyota Fortuner and Chevy Trailblaizer. It looks old old fashioned.
looks great! it will seat more people. share components with mercedes-benz and the upcoming 2011 jeep grand cherokee. is not a wimpy crossover, rather a hunky truck/suv. a real winner. NICE!!!
Not bad. This design lends a little sophistication to the macho Ram look. Now, how about some 2012 Charger and 300 drawings?
It looks like something from ten years ago. Chrysler needs to leap forward fast. GM, Ford, and everyone else have a lot of really cool product coming out. Inexplicably, under Daimler and then Cerberus, Chrysler has gone in a trucky, regressive direction in all their vehicles. Plus the worst quality in the industry.
The Feds gave Chrysler some money and told them to shape up. Without that there would be no Chrysler today. It is absurd to blame the guvmint for Chrysler's response. Anyway they better get some Chrysler grills on some Alfas quick. And design more stuff down those lines. Just compare say the new Hyundai Sonata to a Sebring or Charger. Night and day.
I think it looks fine. It couldn't be anything but a Dodge. I'm just not sure it's what Chrysler/Dodge need. Isn't the Grand Cherokee enough? And speaking of U.S. Patent Office drawings - are ALL 'future car' designs presented - in cartoon form - to the patent office? If so - is it safe to assume that the next 300C and Charger are just waiting to be found?
definitely a toyota fortuner......
I am very impressed. Chrysler has done such an outstanding job keeping Jeep unique, except for adding the small Compass model. There is little cross shopping between Jeep and other Chrysler divions: Chrysler-Dodge-Ram. Unlike GM and it's "like trucks" from Chevrolet and GMC, Chrysler is said to be keeping the upcoming 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee a "true" Jeep and merely a Dodge Durango "twin" in an effort to keep it's loyal customer base. From I have heard in Detroit, the 2012 Dodge Durango will give truck/suv/car/crossover/minivan buyers yet another alternative withing the fold (i.e. Grand Caravan, Journey) to choose from. The elegant Chrysler Aspen (based on the previous Dodge Durango) is not expected to return. The Dodge will seat more individuals than the '11 Cherokee.
The taillights look really neat. BTW, the writer above must have meant "...not merely a Dodge Durango "twin"..." I like both the Dodge and Jeep, but they are certainly meant for different buyers. I agree with ^.
the size of the durango was always just right for the family, but i love this new one much better! it looks great. sport, yet rugged!
this one is much better. imo
