The covers came off the all-new Nissan Micra today at the 80th Geneva Motor Show. Developed and built on Nissan’s all-new V-platform, the Japanese supermini goes global with production set to take place at several overseas manufacturing sites including Thailand, India, Mexico and China.
The fourth generation of the Micra is slightly longer and marginally lower than its predecessor with Nissan claiming that the extended wheelbase has further improved interior space.
In Europe, Nissan’s new city car will be offered with just two engines options, a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol producing 80HP and 108Nm with CO2 emissions of 115g/km, and a turbocharged version of the same engine with direct injection that pumps out 98HP and 142Nm of torque with CO2 emissions of just 95g/km.
Both versions of the 1.2-liter three-pot are available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or Nissan’s all-new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Available features include a new ‘parking space measurement’ (PSM) device with three skill levels (amateur, normal and expert), a touch-screen navigation and audio system, and a glass roof.
In Europe, the Micra will be fitted with ABS, dual front airbags, curtain and side airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and pretensioner seatbelts as standard equipment.
Sales of the new Micra are scheduled to start initially in Thailand in March and in Europe from this November.
