Paris Show: New Lotus Esprit Flagship with 620HP Lexus V8 in the Flesh and on Video

[Updated gallery] Lotus pounced on Paris like a rabid hyena, debuting no less than 6 all-new models. With the new Esprit, a car everyone has been waiting for, Lotus answered some important questions regarding its future mid-engined 2-seat monster. Scroll on down for video, pics, and all the basic info necessary to make a very important decision: to buy an Esprit or not to buy an Esprit?

Using the same supercharged 620-horsepower 5.0-liter Lexus V8 found in the Elite GT we recently showed you, and coming in at 1,450 kg, the Esprit is going to be a bit on the fast side (even in optional hybrid form).

If you're interested in picking up the new Lotus performance flagship, the price of entry will start at a cool £110,000 (about US$175,00 at today's exchange rates) come spring 2013.

Lotus CEO Danny Bahar says, "One has to be very careful when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic classic as the Esprit – everyone has an opinion. There's a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we've managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist."

650 hp and 3100 lbs isn't that bad for a mid-engine car and also keeping the cost below 200k as well
have to remember the esprit weighed 2800 lbs and topped out at 350 hp in its last years

I think they did a pretty good job with this design, maybe you should blame the goverment for the extra weight. ;)

That Lexus V8 is such an engine! It should be experienced.

Supercharged V8 ?? The only reason I was looking forward to this car is that it was supposed to get that phenomenal V10 engine from the LFA ! That engine is a masterpiece, weights less than a V6 (<160 kg), and sounds absolutely incredible ! This, on the other hand, weights at least 250 kg, and doesn't sound nearly as good. I don't care it it has 60 bhp more, the weight penalty is too much, and I don't want stupid supercharger wine in my supercar ! By the way, 1450 kg, is that dry weight or curb weight ??

Whats with all these French or Italian guys talking about Lotus? Lotus is British, get some British guys to talk about Lotus at least.

Power-to-weight ratios hold more value than weight alone when dealing with performance figures. That being said, this car is stunning! Looks like a worthy successor to both the Esprit... and the Honda NSX.

Once again, pretty clear reason why Toyota won't source the LFA's V10 to Lotus, it would be cannibalistic. I'm pretty sure Toyota wouldn't want sales of their LFA compromised by these much prettier and affordable Lotus cars. Not to mention, they're all around better deals, but to give it the same engine as the LFA? That's almost like asking for people to pass up on the LFA.

Are you watching this Honda ? This is the sucessor to your NSX. Go Lotus !!! ( With Toyota power !! )

I hate the old Lotus's caught-on-fire engine. glad they use the Lexus's engine. but I wish it $110k U.S. dollar instead.

Do anyone see a little bit of the 458 in the side profile? Or is that just me? Maybe it is just me.
