Samir Sadihkov’s 2020 Inceptor Supercar Study

|

What you see pictured here is a futuristic proposal for a hybrid supercar crafted by Samir Sadikhov, a talented 19-year old designer from Azerbaijan. Even though the concept study has an exterior with a few styling cues here and there from cars such as the Pininfarina / Ferrari P45, Bugatti Veyron and Jaguar XJ220, plus a little bit of Lexus LFA in the interior, there is a lot to like about the design.

The elongated A-pillars, for instance, are set far forward, almost directly in the driver's line of vision. This is to make allowances for the cab-forward scissor doors that seem to take their shape from the doors on the GT40 Le Mans winner.

The cat-like haunches at the front and outrigger-style rear wheel covers give the Inceptor a strong, menacing stance. So too do the oversized, jet fighter-style exhausts.

Inside, the Inceptor is pretty standard; the one notable feature is the air condition vents that are literally sculpted into the dash.

Very poor visibility for the driver, won't be able to see any corners. Designers need to design for the driving experience instead of for looks.

You design for looks, then work from there to retain as much of your design in the conversion to reality as possible. This design is excellent -- most "supercar" designs today are very derivative and boring, if not downright ugly. This has some derivative aspects, but is overall very novel and quite beautiful. Rear wheel design is especially creative.

It looks like a concept from the late Nineties telling us what the supercar of 2005 will look like. It's pretty dated already.

This is a stunning concept. I don't see any Bugatti Veyron or Pininfarina in this. If you want find similarities you will.. because cars are objects which have to adhere to function...so you can find similarities if you are hell bent.
If this doesn't blow you away then you have to go to Oklahoma.

Designing for looks, then working from there? Sorry, thats exactly the kind of nonsense thinking that brought us mediocre cars, that may look interesting in concept form, but end up being bland and boring. A decently skilled designer has some understanding of engineering and ergonomy issues and incorporates those requirements into his initial design, maximising the chances that his or her vision makes it into production.

This study is a total fail in those regards, visibility is zero, except straight ahead. The interior is not only not driver-centric, as it should be in a supercar, but also a mess from an ergonomic point of view.

Sorry, but this is fanboy stuff, not the work of a serious designer who shows interest in that occupation.
