Dodge Continues Product Onslaught with 2011 Grand Caravan, will be Available in R/T form

|

After tossing out the facelifted 2011 Avenger earlier today, Dodge has now unveiled the revised 2011 Grand Caravan. If you have been following the news on the Chrysler Group's 2011MY products, you won't be surprised to know that the changes on the Grand Caravan can be summed up in the following points: Pentastar V6; overhauled interior; re-tuned suspension and subtle exterior mods.

In detail, the 2011 edition of Dodge's minivan gets a redesigned interior with a one-piece instrument panel and a three-spoke steering wheel (optionally heated), while soft-touch and higher quality materials have been used throughout the cabin. There's also an available "super" center console with added functionality and storage plus more comfortable and larger Stow 'n Go seats with a new, easier to use one-touch fold down function.

You'll probably have to be a fan of the Grand Caravan to notice the exterior revisions, which are limited to a split crosshair" grille, a new hood and front bumper design, quad headlamps plus a more sculpted rear fascia and liftgate, and LED tail lamps.

Underneath the sheetmetal, the suspension has been re-tuned and lowered, while the 3.3-liter, 3.8-liter and 4.0-liter V-6 engines have all replaced with the group's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 delivering 283 ponies and 260 lb.ft of peak torque. The new engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

When it arrives in dealerships later this year, the 2011 Grand Caravan will be available in three configurations - Express, Mainstreet and Crew. However, in Spring of 2011, Dodge will add a sportier R/T version to the range. No specific details were given on the R/T, but Dodge said it will feature unique design cues inside and out.

minivans might not be exciting for many here, but as a family man with a new dodge challenger r/t in the garage and a 1999 chrysler town & country limited in the next garage, i welcome this new '11 as our 222,000 miles plus family hauler is due to be traded. i like the revisions made to an already great van, but welcome what looks like a much sexier (relative, but it's a minivan, guys. lol!), better designed, vastly nicer interior and higher quality family transporter. i am pleased, too, to see a new more powerful v6 claiming to get better mpg's and lastly, but not least, a "man van" r/t edition with the hopes of a v8 in time, according to reliable sources. thank you, chrysler-jeep-dodge-ram-fiat for what i see replacing our faithful t&c and supplementing my hemi v8 mopar coupe :)!

The instrument cluster looks like that of a pricey Lexus, but even a tad sportier.

handsome bucket seats. nice to see expensive crossover type richly appointed black leather. they even resemble my 11MY grand cherokee overland suv. that's a compliment of huge proportions!

Liking the European headlights. Great looking dashboard design and large navigation! High quality inside and out... from what I have seen and heard here in Detroit, MI.

R/T? Cool!

^ as you would expect, the '11 chrysler t&c will be even better equipped with even more exclusive features and more up-level styling to set the brand's brethren further apart for preprocessors and the 2011 dodge.

interior is best in class!

Exterior looks nicer than the '11 Honda and Toyota minivans and the dreadful looking Ford Flex and '11 Ford Explorer crossovers. Hands down!

AWD with a 375hp 5.7 liter, 20 inch wheels and lowered sport suspension. Don't forget the waterbed in the back and killer graphics on the exterior. Yeah, baby!! (and maybe porthole windows)

i will volunteer to take the kids to soccer practice with a van looking this good and driving even better from all reports. chrysler remains the minivan champ with these great improvements! i have owned six with my wife. looks like there will be a seventh! a 2011 r/t!

cleaver storage! even better seats, quality, stow-in-go, pop-up tables and killer adult-like leather and awesome dash... what's not to like?!

Chrysler, thank you for the all black interior! We love our 2010 TC minivan, but the linen colour off-white beige is too light for family fun. Nice and cool for our annual trip from Long Island, NY to Orlando, FL, though! Still, dark will be better for camping, scouting and fishing.

^ personally, i like light seat inserts with darker carpeting and major seating areas. two-tone leather and trim looks classier, too. cannot wait to see the 2011 color pallet, inside and out. we trade annually so it is important before ordering.

Exterior needs newer and bolder looks. They should change the grill and the headlamps. Looks like the outgoing model.
Also needs panoramic sunroof. The worst they can do is take away swivel and go.
