Ferrari's Revolutionary Breadvan: The Four-Seater, All-Wheel Drive FF

Ferrari's replacement for the 612 Scaglietti has finally come out of the closet ushering a radical new concept for the famed company from Maranello. The FF, which is an acronym for Ferrari Four, is probably the company's most versatile series production model ever featuring seating and luggage space for four, an all-wheel drive system and a shooting brake body style. It will be revealed at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show with sales to follow later in the year.

Designed by Pininfarina, the FF is a large sports car measuring 4,907 mm in length, 1,953 in width and 1,379 mm in height. The elongated roofline, the styling of the rear quarter and the car's proportions bring to mind a variety of older models, one of which is the BMW Z3 Coupe.

The Prancing Horse company has not published any photos of the interior yet, but notes that the FF "can comfortably accommodate four people and their luggage". Talking about boot capacity, there's 450 liters of space with all four passengers about, or 800 liter with the rear seats folded.

Ferrari added that it has developed a vast array of personalization options and accessories for the FF, including include six model-specific exterior colors and interior trims.

There's a lot going on under the sheetmetal as the FF introduces company’s first ever [production] four-wheel drive system. Called 4RM, it is said to weigh 50 per cent less than a conventional four-wheel drive system, thus helping to maintain an almost perfect weight distribution [47:53].

The Italian company has released few other details about the system, but it claims "it delivers record levels of performance on all terrains and in all conditions via continuous and intelligent predictive torque distribution to all four wheels."

The FF is powered by a brand new 6.3-liter V12 engine with direct injection and Ferrari's HELE tech that includes a stop/start system. Sitting up front, the 12-cylinder motor delivers 660-horses at 8,000 rpm and is hooked up to dual-clutch F1 gearbox. Ferrari said the FF completes the 0-100km/h [62mph] sprint in 3.7 seconds and 335 km/h (208 mph), while returning a combined fuel economy of 15.4 lt/100km, equal to 15.3 mpg US, with CO2 emissions of 360 g/km.

The GT tips the scales at a hefty 1,790 kg or 3,946 pounds, but thanks to the powerful V12, it boasts a weight-to-power ratio of 2.7 kg/hp.

Other highlights include the latest magnetorheological damping system (SCM3), as well as the most recent development in carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo.

More details will be released at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but until then, check out the photos and video below, and tell us what you think about Ferrari's latest model in the comments section.

Amazingly beautiful car. Ferrari performance with awd versatility and room for 4 people and their heads can now come along also, we'll have to see if they can bring their legs or not. I welcome this new type of Ferrari and I have to say that since leaving Pininfarina, Ferrari has been doing an amazing job stylistically. I think Pininfarina was getting stale.

This will cause the price of the M Coupe and Z3 Coupes to go up even more than the somewhat astronomical prices sellers are wanting for their pristince condition cars.

Wonder if BMW and others will now launch their versions like those in the link below

There have been plenty of shooting breaks before the BMW Z3 coupe, most notably in the 60s/70s. Volvo P1800 is one of my favorites, and early Chevy Corvettes were even shown as shooting break concept cars... Love this new Ferrari!

I like the profile and I like the back...
But this fascia looks like an angry Pokemon!!

Amazing, now need to win at a lotery, and fast :)

Anonymous said... »January 21, 2011

This is the most ridiculous looking supercar I have ever seen.

Anonymous said... »January 21, 2011

Uhm..Calidesigner, I think you missed the Pininfarina logo on the side.

So is this considered to be the official successor of the 612 Scaglietti or a model besides it. Anyway, it looks good no matter what, especially the aggressive front can please me.

it would be even awesome if it comes with panoramic sunroof.

- Really??? Next time you should google Shooting Brake first...

"it would be even awesome if it comes with panoramic sunroof."
"And three cupholders, let's not forget the cupholders please"
- LOL

PS: I love it, so Ferrari please make it...

"bmw is a truly "inventor" of shooting brake with z3 coupe..no such a vecihle since then"

BULLSHIT! BMW most certainly DID NOT invent the shooting brake body style. The shooting brake dates back to at least the mid-60's.

Frigg, even Honda offered the Civic as a shooting brake back in the early 90's! It was marketed as a hatchback, but it is a shooting brake bodystyle!

Anonymous said... »January 21, 2011

all the shooting brake cars you were mentioning were produce in 70...first modern car with shootin brake style ,and two seat.were bmw z3 coupe.and since then nobody made it..by speculations bmw will be the first again..
go to wiki under the shooting brake..
similar to this but two seater ferrari were 1968 Ferrari Berlinetta..

the hunchback of Notre Maranello.

Anonymous said... »January 21, 2011

looks like the time stood still at pininfarina (not in the 60´s). I would´ve been impressed by this in 1999. Now however, this just looks generic. Boring lines with expected surface treatments seen at brands like seat!! Absolutely no style what so ever, nothing that says wow at all!?

tb4 said... »January 21, 2011

ok this is interesting but hopefully production car gets a boot!

ben said... »January 21, 2011

something different from ferrari...nice...AND it has 458 lights...which is fine with me..

Anonymous said... »January 21, 2011

Z3 M Coupe!

mike said... »January 21, 2011

it looks fugly and a Nissan GT-R still shits all over this Ferrari, they both weight almost the same, both are 2+2, both have AWD, but Nissan is faster 0-60 and has 130bph less, how is that possible!?!

PS. the GT-R looks way better too

Anonymous said... »January 21, 2011

Ferrari has truly lost its way. Unimaginative and boring. No Italian soul in this car whatsoever. A bigger Z3, so what. I love a V12 just as much as the next guy, but Ferrari has to step up to the plate on design. Other companies are doing much better job.

Anonymous said... »January 22, 2011

I like the profile of the car but not the front fascia. I think its a bold move for ferrari and should be encouraged, however can you please fix the front?

Btw, an awesome shooting break is the Bentley Continental GT SB - its a concept kinda but looks awesome and elegant from every angle.

Having said that, can you tell me why most modern car designs look like shit? Especially since 2000 or so. Why do head and tail lights look so hideous and ungeometric and assume all these stupid shapes and forms. Like the rest of the car really. The new Mercedes SL is a good example of a shit headlight design. The tail lights of the new Focus. What the fuck is this!?

Anonymous said... »January 22, 2011

A hatch exotics? Fastback Porsche Elephant are better!

Anonymous said... »January 23, 2011

At least it is still a Coupe, albeit, a hatch coupe

Anonymous said... »January 23, 2011

Mike: The problem with the GT-R is; when you have a GT-R, you have a Nissan. When you have a Ferrari, well, need I say more? I guess there's no accounting for taste with some people. No comparison as far as I'm concerned. Besides, I don't think that the powers-that-be at Ferrari are concerned with the opinions of GT-R fanboys.

Anonymous said... »January 23, 2011

^....The Hell they aren't. Ferrari is mostly a name, a marketing ploy...Love Ferrari's, but get a clue, will ya.

Anonymous said... »January 24, 2011

This has got to be by far the most ugly car I have ever seen. The Z-coupe from BMW are nastly ugly, but Ferrari really raises the bar with this...

Anonymous said... »February 06, 2011

I prefer the BMW Z4'10 any day compared to this for few factors 1 its cheap 2 i can get it now 3 Cheaper to own and frankly this looks more of a 1-Series 3-Door than a Z4 Coupe starting from the door back the front well looks like a Merc SL from the side but up front 458

Anonymous said... »February 13, 2011

This Ferrari is so ugly, man what 's Ferrari up to? FF a four seats car who wants a four seats Ferrari? Car looks so long that looks like a boat, if you are prepare to spend this kind of money go buy a BMW make Rolls Royce Phanton and with the spare cash to get a Ferrari F355 GTB.

Anonymous said... »February 16, 2011

Well..............

It's.. .erhmm.... Different....

Anonymous said... »February 24, 2011

looks more like a 458 italia with as an estate but all the same details from the 458 are on the ff, the headlights only slightly smaller, the tailights. and the entire body is just a 458

Anonymous said... »February 24, 2011

well why would say why would you want a four seater ferrari.? look at the california. one of ferrari's best convertibles and its a four seater so you must be saying that the california is bad.

Anonymous said... »February 25, 2011

Not the prettiest Ferrari ever conceived, that's for sure, if you ask me it's outright ugly, I think if Enzo were alive, it wouldn't make it past the drawing board.

Anonymous said... »February 25, 2011

Guess what? Chris Bangle has gone to Ferrari.....What a mess!!!

Anonymous said... »February 26, 2011

How 'bout the MGB GT?
