BMW Shows Off i3 EV and i8 Hybrid Concepts on Film

The headline story on the automotive front today (that would be Friday, July 29) is no doubt the presentation of the first concept models of BMW's new division for alternative fuel vehicles that we will come to know as the "i" series.

We've already given you a first look at the i3 pure-electric hatchback as well as the sporty i8 gasoline-electric hybrid coupe concepts, but BMW has also released a series of films on both vehicles.

For the time being, the films show computer generated version of the i3 and i8 but we reckon it won't be long before BMW releases real-life videos of the two concept cars that will receive their world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Does anyone else think that these two cars are ridiculously ugly?

No, the i8 is fantastic. Want.

I like the i8, all the translucent glass or polycarbonate like panels allow greater visibility, and I suspect will give the driver variable tint and control over light reaching the cabin.

omfs, can anyone actually SIT in those rear seats ??

guest said... »July 31, 2011

I just wish the I3 had a bench seat in the back instead of the 2 bucket seats. Unless they had to remove the middle seat for the batteries like the Chevrolet Volt. Also what will happen if the cars are side swiped? Doesn't look like it would pass any safety tests in that area considering how much glass the doors are made of.

The problem with this is local governments put politics ahead of infrastructure and citizens, and other tech companies are divesting from our country, as they cut pay and benefits making people here poorer so all this technology will be useless. Its time to bring back tarrifs, nullify ridiculous treatys, pull out of the UN, and let the rest of the world fall apart without taking our money and resources.
