Car enthusiasts often use “Yacht on wheels” as a belittling term to describe vehicles with sloppy driving dynamics, but for Mercedes-Benz and its new concept model, it takes a more literal meaning.

The Viano Vision Pearl, which Mercedes itself describes as a “Yacht on wheels” is a design concept that takes its inspiration from that of modern sporting yachts, will debut at this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.

Mind you, it’s not the first nautical themed concept from Germany as Audi had presented a similar concept based on the Q7 back in 2008.

On the outside, the Viano concept van sports a special paint finish called “magno pearl grey”, a revised front end with integrated LED daytime running lamps and bespoke alloy wheels.

The interior of the Viano Vision Pearl is slathered in leather and wood trims while also boasting an array of features such as the high-end audio system with an output of 1320 watts and 18 integrated, specially hand-built loudspeakers.

“We want to show what can be done with the Viano. The Viano Vision Pearl is not merely a functional van, but also a stylishly designed living space,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

“We have created a vehicle which combines generous spaciousness with an impressive design. Anybody who attaches importance to stress-free and at the same time stylish travel will find that the Viano Vision Pearl is the ideal companion. The interior design and technical features make the Viano Vision Pearl the S-Class among vans.”
