A legendary alliance is reforming in Formula 1: Williams and Renault Sport have decided to cooperate once again for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, when the rules stipulate V8 engines, and an option to continue in 2014 when the new turbocharged V6s are introduced.

The two companies’ partnership dates back to 1989 and it was very successful. The results were four driver’s titles in 1992 (Nigel Mansell), 1993 (Alain Prost), 1996 (Damon Hill) and 1997 (Jacques Villeneuve), as well as five constructors titles, in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997. Oh, and their bond resulted in Renault naming one of its most fun-to-drive cars, the top version of the Clio, with the Williams badge.

Renault builds its racing engines in Viry-Chatillon in the south of Paris. It has won nine constructors drivers’ titles overall, the most recent one being in 2010 with the Red Bull team and Sebastian Vettel, who so far are dominating this year’s season with 6 wins in 8 races.
