Video: Jay Leno Meets the Cadillac Ciel Concept

|

Jay Leno, one of America's most famous comedians and notable petrol heads, was at hand at last week's Pebble Beach show where he met up with GM's VP of Global Design Ed Welburn for a more…personal look at the impressively styled Cadillac Ciel.

The conceptual model, which gathered mostly positive reviews for its styling from the press and readers alike, is a four-door, four-seat convertible motivated by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 425-horsepower and is combined with an electric motor that draws energy from a lithium-ion battery.

It's called the Ciel, FYI.

Ed's a cool dude, but the first-generation of Art & Science (that Lutz just plain hated the group altogether) produced the CTS. The CTS drew a large youth following that immediately went about customizing their cars. GM did not want this demographic and told dealers to shun and dissuade youth buyers as they were not the "image" that GM wanted for the Cadillac brand. I have to chuckle when Jay states that the youth are saving-up for CTS-V (2:40 marker) when GM didn’t want the youth group for the Cadillac brand to begin with.

Of course this concept will never see the light of day, and simply solicits free publicity for the Cadillac brand. Love the invisible ragtop and B-pillars. The solid block of wood on the console will eventually warp in real-life. Four-seater on an automobile this large? Get real GM. Meet the new GM...it's the same as the Old GM (without the warranty and recalls liabilities).

Excellent interview!  The Ciel is beautiful and I look forward to seeing new cutting edge models from Cadillac.  Hopefully the Ciel will be the precursor to an actual production Sixteen (or ten).  I also would love to see a Cien sports car based on the revamped Corvette. Thanks for posting.

Okay that tops out UGLIEST CAR of the year.   I have watched, through my family's buying, Cadillac go straight to shit.  Plastic pieces of crap.  They should fire that guy.  NO TASTE.

i wanted to hate it. but as far as land-yachts go .. it's between this and the 'ol lincoln (i'd be way less embarrassed to drive the Lincoln) ..

but i could see 4 senior citizens in matching track-suits drifting down the highway having a good time, with ample room for each colostomy bag, i get it, i get it.
