Video: Man Sets Guinness World Record for Tightest Parallel Parking

|

Under the supervision of an official Guinness World Records [GWR] adjudicator, German driver Ronny Wechselberger, also known as "Ronny C-Rock" (be careful with the spelling here…), set a new record earlier this year for the world's tightest parallel parking.

Mr. C-Rock was able to slide his VW Polo with the help of the handbrake into a parking space measuring just 26 cm’s (10.24 inches) longer than that of his vehicle. Even though the record was set in April 2, 2011, the Guinness World Records officials released the video today.

However, Wechselberger's record breaking feat didn't last long as on July 21, Chinese driver Zhang Hua managed to squeeze a car into a space just 24cm longer than that of his vehicle. GWR said it will release the new video later in the year.

I wonder how he would do if it weren't for that layer of tar sand that help him slide that car into that parking  space,

I agree, that's kind of a jip, preparing the surface like that I would think gives the driver an unfair advantage. Still it's a nice piece of driving, the kind of thing where you really have to know the car you're in really well.  But if I wanted to set the record, could I cover the ground with  super high viscosity oil, and give the car a push with my foot and let it slide in slow motion, would that count?

I think the Guinness people should require that the surface be uniform, If you're going to put oily sand where the back wheels will slide put oily sand where the front wheels are as well and let's see how you do, otherwise the record should have an asterisk next to it.

the title of this guinness should be: "Tightest Parallel Parking helped by sand"

I can't wait to see the newer record! But yeah, the tar did help a lot for traction. But with the congestion on roads now, I don't think it's even possible to do that with or without sand.
