These days, the easiest way to improve the performance of any modern car is through a software upgrade. British tuner Superchips, which specializes on ECU remaps, has launched a new program for the special edition Citroën DS3 Racing that has a limited production run of 1,000 units.

In UK trim, the sportiest version of the French hatchback is fitted with a 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged petrol engine delivering 204bhp and 202.8 lb-ft (275Nm) of peak torque.

After Superchip’s ECU optimization, the blown four-banger gains 26bhp and 43Nm for a total of 230bhp and 318Nm (234.5 lb-ft).

The British tuner claims that the upgrade makes the hot hatch feel “livelier” and with “enhanced in gear acceleration”. The company added that while it has yet to test the improved DS3 Racing, it expects that the power increase will help the car “eclipse” the quoted 6.5 seconds 0-60 mph (96km/h) time and 149 mph (240km/h) top speed.

The ECU tune is suitable for all Citroën DS3 Racing models produced from January 2011 onwards, with UK pricing set at £455.00, including VAT at 20%.
