Citing company officials, Edmund’s Insideline reported today that the highly anticipated 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLC compact sports sedan would receive its world premiere at the 2012 New York Auto Show next April.

The German luxury carmaker’s executives also noted that the CLC (the name has not yet been confirmed) will not be a “stripped down”, inexpensive model with few features, stating that “this [the CLC] will be a real Mercedes-Benz”.

The CLS-inspired model will be on the lower price-end of the so-called “four-door coupe” segment, or for those that disagree with the classification; it can be described as a sporty looking compact sedan with a rakish roofline and dynamic proportions.

The sedan is based on an elongated version of the upcoming 2013 A-Class’ MFA platform, meaning that the basic models will be front-wheel drive. However, it is believed that Mercedes-Benz will team up the more powerful engines with an all-wheel drive system.

A variety of new four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines will be available from launch.

Recently, it was also reported that Daimler’s boss Dieter Zetsche has given the green light for the development of shooting brake version of the CLC that should reach the market within the next two to three years.
