There’s a lot going on at Mazda’s 2011 SEMA Show booth this year. Along with the two MX-5 concept roadsters, the Japanese brand also brought a pair of hotted-up Mazda2 studies to the Las Vegas show.

Without doubt, the Mazda2 Turbo is the one to watch out for as the concept model has been fitted with the MAZDASPEED3’s MZR 2.3-liter Direct Injection Spark Ignition (DISI) turbo engine that pumps out 263-horses and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm.

The Japanese firm did not reveal any performance numbers, but given that the Mazda2 is significantly lighter than the larger Mazda3, it’s safe to assume that the Turbo study should be fairly faster than its larger sibling.

To improve handling, Mazda engineers fitted the small hatchback with an HR coil over suspension kit, Corksport sway bars and customized Brembo front brakes with 13-inch ventilated and slotted rotors.

The Mazda2 Turbo rolls on Yokohama ADVAN Neova 215/40R17 performance tires mounted onto shiny black 17-inch OZ Racing wheels.

On the outside, the concept sports a Sonic White tri-coat paint job with a Brilliant Black finish for the lower panels, wheel arches, side skirts and lower front fascia, and bright green and neon yellow graphics and trim pieces.

While retaining the stock model’s rear seat bench, the Mazda2 Turbo gains a pair of bucket seats up front trimmed in black leather with yellow piping, and an AiM Pista MXL digital racing performance and data acquisition display.

The Japanese firm’s second Mazda2 Concept is the 3dCarbon that features a customized body kit with a front air dam, side skirts, a rear lower diffuser and Mazda2 Touring-spec upper rear spoiler plus special graphics, an Eibach suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels shod in Yokohama S.drive 215/35R18 tires.
