It has one of the longest designations we’ve ever seen but what really makes the C3 e-HDi 70 Airdream EGS VTR+ stand out from the crowd is that it’s greenest and most fuel efficient conventionally-powered Citroën model to date.

According to the French automaker, the diesel-powered supermini returns a combined fuel economy of 83.1mpg UK (equal to 69.2mpg US and 3.4lt/100km) with CO2 emissions of just 87g/km.

The new version of the C3 supermini quietly made its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September and is now available for order in the UK with OTR of £15,290.

The five-door hatchback combines Citroën’s e-HDi micro-hybrid Stop & Start technology, with a tweaked 68HP diesel engine, that allows it to deliver a fuel economy of up to 88.3mpg (73.5mpg US or 3.2lt/100km) on the highway.

“With impressive fuel economy, low CO2 emissions, a BIK rate at just 13%, free VED and the benefit of no London Congestion Charge, this stylish model is a financially and environmentally attractive addition to the Citroën range,” said Jules Tilstone, Citroën UK’s Marketing Director.
