The students over at Nihon Automobile College [NATS] in Japan have churned out some pretty bizarre creations over the years ranging from a Honda Beat dressed in an NSX suite to a high-ridding Volkswagen pickup truck.

At this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, NATS displayed the EV-Sports Prototype01 that is based on the first generation of the Honda Insight hybrid.

The students replaced the original model’s gasoline engine and Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist system with a new electric drive that draws energy from a lithium-ion battery pack.

In the process, they also made several structural changes to the chassis as well as the body to make it feel and look sportier – though the end result kinda looks like a castoff from the recent Cars 2 animated film…
