2012 NAIAS: Early Reveal for Lincoln MKZ Concept

|

The same people that brought us an early glimpse of the 2013 Ford Fusion sedan over the weekend are further testing the Blue Oval's patience by dropping pictures of the Lincoln MKZ concept model ahead of its planned world premiere in Detroit on Tuesday morning.

The conceptual MKZ appears to be a little bit more study than what we were expecting given that its role is to preview the production model that will be unveiled withing the next year or so.

The exterior styling is highlighted by a different interpretation of Lincoln's split grille up front and tauter surfaces on the body. An official Lincoln teaser image released on Sunday also revealed a portion of the MKZ Concept's rear end that sports a full-width tail lamp strip.

As for the interior, the styling seems to be new, though there's not much we can say for now due to the low quality photo.

Under the skin, the MKZ Concept and the production model that will follow share most of their hardware with the new 2013 Ford Fusion.

This is Lincolns entry for the highly competitive entry luxury class? Wow someone might as well kill Lincoln now that styling is terrible it looks like a 90s model concept sedan, not to mention the interior looks identical to the fusion. ITs a ashame that ford spends so much time on improving Fords, and continue to cheap skate it on Lincoln

A huge step in the right direction. Lincoln remains too conservative; a factor that adds to the bane of its existence. America has changed; buyers' in this segment have changed; Lincoln must take more chances. If Lincoln doesn’t take chances the next chapter is obsolescence.

Vertical slits. Horizontal slits. Make up your mind.

First impression. Too early to tell but I hope it will be able itself from a Ford Taurus. The  I think it will do well up against Lexus and Acura. But why aim so low.

They're just putting lipstick on the same old pig.  Poor ol' lincoln.

The thing is, this shares the platform with the new Ford Fusion.

And from the looks of things, I would rather drive the Fusion than the MKZ.

Lincoln better get its act together if it's going to allow Ford to upstage it.

Obviously you haven't seen the new GS.

It looks like plastic surgery gone horribly wrong. Like a facelift that went too far, stretching and altering one's identity beyond recognition.

I'm in agreement with most of the commentators here - despite the lack of a clear image, this does NOT look promising, despite the fact that seems to recall the well proportioned MKR concept of 2007. But 5 years on, Lincoln models are ill proportioned with bland surfacing and detailing, and this daft over-emphasis of the ugly grille motif, so why should we believe that this concept heralds some new direction for Lincoln? This is so tired and suggests Lincoln has lost its way. Who is calling the shots at Lincoln nowadays? When will someone with a bit of vision and BALLS take this brand in hand and make it something to be desired?

...and that's all it is: a Fusion with a different grille.  Come on Ford, if you're going to continue to (attempt to) sell the Lincoln as a competitor to Cadillac, as least come up with a stand-alone car that will compete with Caddy.  This car - a thinly altered Fusion - is not the car you need(!)
