Scion Debuts 600-Horsepower GReddy FR-S Racer for Formula DRIFT Series

|

It was only to be expected that Scion would prep its new FR-S rear-wheel drive sports car for the Formula DRIFT series and at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Japanese company presented a race-spec version with which veteran driver Ken Gushi will participate in the 2012 season.

The FR-S racecar is the result of a collaboration between Scion Racing and GReddy, a long time racing partner of Toyota.

We remain short on the details but Scion told us that the Greddy FR-S is motivated by a front-mounted 600-horsepower engine, which should probably be enough to light up the rear wheels…

The photos reveal that the racing model also gets a new body kit that includes front winglets and a huge rear wing, different alloy wheels in low profile tires, and fixed windows, while the interior has been stripped out and equipped with a pair of racing bucket seats up front, a safety roll cage and a racing steering wheel.

Silly question: where is the exhaust?

Scion didn't say, but we'll look it up and post an update as soon as we find out.

I really like these things - I just wish they would have differentiated the styling more between Scion and Subaru.

Not a silly question really. I thought about it at first too but I soon noticed that that the car is rated at 600HPs. Everything makes senses. You see the engine produces so much power that no ordinary exhaust will do. In this case, the exhaust is plumed into the driver's helmet and he uses this fuel his rage as he pummels the competition. The emissions are converted to oxygen and sweat that seep out of the driver's pores. Of course not everything is 100% efficient and so the windows are cracked open a little to allow some of the uncatalyzed emissions to escape.

I'm sure it's based on the Subaru engine, though doubtless it's been heavily reworked
