The Chrysler Group has issued a recall on certain Dodge Charger police vehicles from the 2011-2012 model years to address two electronic problems. The recall affects 9,688 patrol cars in the U.S.

The Detroit automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that in some cars, the low beam headlamps could fail due to an overheated bulb harness connector, while in other vehicles, the ABS/ESC systems may stop functioning due to an overheated power distribution center.

The company said it would notify owners and dealers to replace the headlamp jumper harnesses and relocate the ABS/ESC system fuse within the power distribution center, free of charge.

Chrysler said that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to either condition.

“The conditions tend to occur when police vehicles are exposed to severe police duty vehicle cycles for an extended period of time including, long durations of high speed, evasive driving when used as training vehicles for police forces and extended idling,” explained David Dillon, Head of Product Investigation and Campaigns at the Chrysler Group.

“We will continue to monitor the retail fleet for any occurrence of this condition beyond police vehicles,” he added.

The safety recall is expected to begin during March 2012
