About a couple of months after it confirmed the availability of its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Ecotec gasoline engine on the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, General Motors today released the performance numbers.
The force-fed engine produces a maximum output of 259 horsepower (193 kW) and a peak torque of 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm), which is sustained from 1,700 to 5,500 rpm.
According to the Detroit automaker, the direct-injection engine can propel the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu from zero to 60mph (96km/h) in just 6.3 seconds, which is a fairly impressive figure for a mainstream car of this size.
GM said that the turbocharged Malibu will go on sale in the U.S. this fall while it will also be offered in Canada, Israel and other markets with more details including pricing and fuel economy figures to be released at a later date.

wtf? camaro tailights? not good chevy...
It's quicker than the Chrysler 300 V-6 and a lot better looking.
NOT
Not bad considering this is a +3400lb car, quite a bit more HP and torque than the 2.5 L four-cylinder from last year, what's the mpg.
Here's a GM car that I would actually consider buying, based primarily on this engine offering.
As a sargent in law enforcement would it make a good cruiser for the NYPD?.
Nice front end, horrible ass end, really interested in the mpg.
Once again, GM leading the way. Not! Hasn't GM had this engine for a few years now? Wasn't it used in the old Saturn Sky Redline, and Chevrolet Cobalt S.S. with the same numbers? Just now getting around to using that engine properly GM? I just don't understand GM, its like their philosophy to play catch up, and never lead. Also, Hyundai has had the Sonata in this same car class with a similar engine, outputs, and performance results. I too would be interested in seeing the mpg numbers on the Malibu.
Zero to sixty in 6.3 feet?
Technically, thats the inches symbol.
IMO GM should also fit this enigne in the Chevy Cruze...
I'm in the market for a (non-SUV) small cheap doggie-wagon with a lot of poke!
good power in an otherwise unattractive package.
Like Kim Kardashian?
That's top fuel dragster territory, lmao!! Does it come standard with a g-suit?
Teacher, TEACHER, Johney's writing on the blackboard.
i just dont understand GM there isnt a clear design direction with there cars its lik two different guys worked on this car and just stuck each others front and rear together. Lets hope they employ some fresh talent. IE KIA designers or Hyundai. There cars are starting to have a real class and flair to them.
believe me i have a 300 touring and i drove the malibu you cant those two
KIA??? HYUNDAI????? Maybe they have "simular" engine's as far as how fast they do 0-60 but not near the quality of motor or body GM has built in recent years. I rented a Malibu Eco at the airport a couple weeks ago and was nothing short of impressed! I am sure the Turbo will be nothing less than outstanding!
Malibu vs hyundai, was gm fan 30 years. Just rented hyudai elantra in tampa, for engineering, smothness, fit, finish materials in the cabin. Hyundai is superior, sorry guys don't know what to say...
