We already knew that Acura is planning to debut a brand-new replacement for its RL flagship sedan (pictured above) at the 2012 New York Auto Show in early April, but while the company has yet to make it official, Wards Auto learned that it will be named RLX.

The news came from Acura’s vice president Jeff Conrad, during a media event for the ILX compact sedan and the redesigned RDX crossover.

There’s not much official information going around for the new RLX, though last October, Acura’s parent company Honda, revealed that it has finished work on a new high output electric SH-AWD hybrid system that combines a 3.5-liter V6 with a pair of 20kW+ motors on both sides for the rear wheels, which would be used on “large-sized vehicles”.

This powertrain setup may very well make its production debut on the new RLX.

We’ll pass on any information we get in the next few days.
