"UK police forces to employ Mitsubishi i-MiEV, speed criminals rejoice!" was the title of our post back in 2009 when we learned that British cops were to use the small electric city car.
And even though Mitsubishi isn't ready to drop full details yet, something tells us that we won't be laughing at this special version of the i-MiEV, with which the Japanese automaker will enter the 2012 edition of the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on July 8, an even that is held annually in Colorado, USA.
The Japanese company said that the i-MiEV Prototype will be based on the production model using the same EV components, without elaborating further.
In these two teaser renderings, we see that the single seater i-MiEV Prototype has a much wider and more aerodynamically designed body.
The racecar is to be driven by Hiroshi Masuoka, who has participated in the Dakar Rally 21 times winning it successively in 2002 and 2003, driving the Mitsubishi Pajero and Pajero Evolution models respectively.

OMG this is a stunning!! Ever wonder what they do with these prototypes? If they're giving them away somwhere, I'll take one :)
Weirdly it looks very very good !
Uh, hello! I'm laughing at this. Last time i checked, laughing at a vehicle as ridiculous looking as this constitutes making fun of it.
It's only a matter of time before electric vehicles come to dominate Hill climb competitions everywhere, having a natural advantage in the area of torque and acceleration
