We've been closely following Citroën's new DS study and today, the first official photos of the concept model hit the web, a couple of weeks ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show.
The French automaker's luxury concept is named DS9 and is said to be a further development of the Metropolis study shown back in 2010 for an upcoming flagship model.
The two concepts share a similar design language, though instead of a sedan body style, the new DS showcar adopts a more shooting break-like styling in the tradition of Citroën's range-toppers such as the original DS and the more modern CX, XM and C6 models.
We'll have to wait for an official statement from Citroën to learn what's hiding under the hood, but we reckon that the DS9 will feature a similar hybrid setup to the Metropolis that linked a 2.0-liter V6 engine to a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission and an electric motor.
Many thanks to our scooper Bruno!

I only wish i had a little more time to help you guys. Really enjoy it. Meanwhile i sent some more pictures of the DS9!
We've been saying it for the last 30 years, that this is the Citroen that will get the executive car buyer out of his Audi, BMW or Mercedes, but this time Citroen might just do it. I love it, the proportions, the detailing are spot on. Bring it to market unchanged and it will sell on looks alone. Combined with oleo-pneumatic suspension to guarantee a trademark Citroen ride, this should succeed where CX, XM and C6 all failed.
I wish they'd produce this and the Metropolis!!
wow this is stunning, Citroen really nailed the proportions. I can't stop looking at these photos, it looks great from all angles. Hopefully we'll get to see the interior soon, I'm sure it will be insane :D
couldnt agree more!
Please make a sedan version Citroen, because undoubtably this is going into production
It just looks amazing....
Citroen has the best design studio on the planet when it comes to concept cars shown in China. I wish they could get the brass to sign off and actually build these cars for world markets, as shown. If the quality control was combined with the incredible looking cars, they would OWN the luxury niche car market. This is one KILLER looking car as is the Metropolis. It's hard to not complement these fantastic French designs. Clothing, perfume, airplanes and their car designs...hard to argue with. "Magnifique!"
