It doesn't take long to connect the dots after taking a quick look at the teaser photos and video of the 2013 Nissan Sentra for the North American market and comparing them with the official imagery of the new Nissan Sylphy sedan that was revealed today at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show.
Even though Nissan preferred to use the term "based on the Sylphy" in its press statement for the 2013 Sentra, it is evident that the two cars are more or less one and the same.
We expect that the differences between the two models will be limited to the trim accents on the exterior and interior of the car.
The Sylphy will be produced at the Dongfeng Nissan Huadu Plant facilities in Guangzhou and go on sale in China this summer. After its introduction in China, Nissan's new global sedan will be launched in most major markets around the world during the course of 2012 and approximately 120 countries by 2014. The Japanese automaker did not say under which name the car will be sold in other regions.
The exterior styling of the new Sentra / Sylphy takes a page or two from the design of the recently unveiled 2013 Altima, itself inspired from the larger Maxima.
The Chinese specification Sylphy is powered by a new 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine matched to a next-generation XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).

wasn't it infiniti first?
Those air vents look straight off a previous gen Avalon.
bit dull for my liking
Gorgeous
That's a good looking Sentra. Much improved.
looks like a toyota
Yep. Dull like a Toyota.
a generous leap over the much maligned current sentra....
This looks boring. I like the current sentra much better.
Pretty awful, I wish Nissan's designers would stop emulating their luxury division Infiniti, because they suck in the looks department, the SUVs being the exception.
If the roof line was a bit lower, it would look like a nicer baby Altima. Hopefully it's roomy, quiet, and more fuel efficient than the current one.
Unexciting.
Very nice, looks classy, that interior puts a Corolla to shame!
I was thinking about getting the new Mitsubishi Gonorrhea... but now that I see the new Nissan Syphilis...
...
yawn.
! This is as bland as it gets!
So, you redesign the Maxima in '09, and trickle the essential design elements down to 85% and 70% scale and call them '13 Altima and '14 Sentra. That might be good for Altima and Sentra, but, you'd better get a completely different look on the next Maxima post haste. Current cycle is about due, but, stranger things have happened. Does the word unique vanish from the design vocabulary at some point of an automaker's life? Or, is this another battle with the engineer's losing out to the accountants?
Nissan had a winning design with the past generation of Maximas, altima and sentra, the swooping lines made then distinctive and very sport looking. What should have been an evolution of that design turned out to be a very boring styling, they don't look fast anymore, they don't look anything honestly, maxima is no longer a head turning.
omg...after years of neglect...the Sentra finally gets attention....
... Maxima's always looked good... but I agree that the sentra and altima have been neglected...but I like this new sentra compared to the new altima...
