Peter Schreyer Explains the Design Behind the New Kia K9 RWD Luxury Sedan

|

While some of you were having some chortles with our Kia 9'Series, the South Korean automaker shared a video about the K9 sedan starring none other than the brand's styling chief, Peter Schreyer.

The man who has completely transformed the design and ultimately, the way we view Kia's modern day lineup, explains the styling process behind the creation of the brand's first rear-wheel drive luxury sedan while drawing a sketch of the car.

You can watch the video for yourself right after the break.

How he can be proud of putting out a design penned by someone else than slightly changed by him....i have no idea..

Kia hired the right gun to redesign their lineup. Talented guy.

Why didn't Schreyer simply say that he, "...told my inspiration from many other sources, but one in particular." What's the German word for "copycat". The drawing presentation reminds me of Captain Kangaroo's magic drawing board.

Am always fascinated by how ignorant some people can be who post here. If some of you had taken the time and knew who this designer was, none  other  then Peter Schreyer. He was the chief designer of the German car brand AUDI. As if other car brands don't copy others.

The Kia 9 series, it is very very similar to the BMW 7 series, particulary the 750iL. The front facies, the lateral panels, the lateral view of the front side, the angles, the shapes, almost everything. It is a copy paste, with .........no modifications at all. Try to invent your own design, and not copy on the others. That's why BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz are still the reference in this segment. They don't copy each other. They are trying to invent something that the other doesn't have and design it differently, but there are no similarities between the  designs. Kia and Hyunday and even Lexus or Acura, will ve at the same Germans. And let's not speack about the Cadillac and Lincoln of this world.........

"He was the chief designer..." Operative word: was. Great that you and he are both trying to defend the indefensible. The K9 is a KopyKat9.

Kia/Hyundai is re-inventing the game and understands what it means to offer value in a feature rich package. The visual similarities to the flagship model of a particular German brand is brilliant marketing and combined with an aggressive pricing structure (1/3 of its Euro twin), this car will sell well. This model may not please some of you "automotive purist" but everyone knows that imitation is a form of flattery.  At the end of the day Kia/Hyundai is in the car selling business and that goal will be achieved in part by Mr.Schreyer's designs - a man that knows a thing or two about design at Audi where he contributed heavily to the creation of the TT (VW Beetle) in addition to the A6, A4, A3.

Let me just add here that people who are actually in the automotive design business doing the designs would be all laughing if they saw some of the stupidly ignorant comments left here by design ignorant common people. Too bad they don't have time to contact each one of these ignorant boys & tell them to go enlighten themselves by studying automotive design history & learning about classic GT luxury sports car proportions & their design philosophies, which even BMW constantly goes back to & gets their ideas from. Even Peter Shreyer here, if he saw some of these childish comments, would be having a good laugh...LOL.

Dave Grohl didn't change his music genre only because he left from Nirvana.
So why Peter Schreyer would do that?

That sketch looks more like a Kia Phantom or Ghost, not so much the actual car. But K9?? really? woof!
