Last month, it was reported that Volkswagen is mulling the development of a sporty looking compact sedan in the likes of the Passat CC (pictured above) based on the running gear of the next Jetta saloon.

Today we learn via a new report from Car&Driver magazine that even though Volkswagen’s top brass is positive about the idea and could soon reach a final decision, company sources from Europe reportedly said, “It is highly unlikely that the car will make it to U.S. dealers”.

The reason why the Jetta CC will probably not be making it across the Atlantic is said to have to do with the price as the compact sports sedan, which will be based on the same MQB platform as the next Golf, is expected to cost more to build than the North American Passat.

In the U.S., prices for the current Jetta (manufactured in Mexico) start at $16,645, while the Chattanooga-built Passat starts at $19,995 and the Passat CC that is imported from Germany, at $30,610.

The publication notes that according to the same sources, if the project is green lighted, the Jetta CC could enter the market in about three years with Europe and China being amongst the first to get the car.
