There is a reason why many consider the notorious corkscrew at the Laguna Seca raceway both fantastic and scary at the same time.
If you want to know about the scary part, then you should take a look at what happened during the 2012 Ferrari Racing Days this past weekend.
While tackling the corkscrew, one of the drivers came in way faster than he should of and the 458 Challenge just continued on straight. Due to the car's momentum, the gravel and tires did not stop the Italian racer, which was flung into the air like a toy before it landed on its roof. A very scary incident indeed.
Fortunately, the driver walked away from the crash shaken but not hurt.
You can view the accident from various angles in the videos below.

Ouch... At least the guy was being a pretty good sport with it. I played all the videos at once, the audio is just AMAZING.
You know there must be a lot of amateur drivers in this, like the number 13 who can't get his car turned around without putting it in reverse, and then his door comes open on the next lap, WTF, they're supposed to secure those things.
There is a rise before the corkscrew, and you need to get your braking done before you hit it, otherwise you'll never make the turn.
boring.
aaronbbrown the king of wannabe's. You think bullshit baffles brains.
I play that track all the time on Forza 3. Never got a car to do that though.

I've had similar accidents in GT5
How long did it take for the marshalls to arrive!!!
Had the driver never heard of the "Corkscrew"? Dude, do a recon lap at slow speed if you don't know the track or what your braking point should be for a specific corner. Another example of too much money and no sense.
Was that an LFA it would have NAILED that corkscrew.
