In what seems like ages in the auto industry, Opel and its British sister brand Vauxhall are still developing the Astra sedan more than three years since the introduction of the hatchback model in the fall of 2009, and two years after Buick launched the Chinese market version of the car under the Excelle GT nameplate.

In the meantime, GM also brought a Buick version of the Astra sedan named the Verano to the North American market.

As with our previous spy shots in February, this latest prototype of the Opel / Vauxhall Astra sedan that our man with the long lens caught in Germany is only partially camouflaged, with all the swirly cover-up taking place on the rear end.

Compared to its Buick counterpart and aside from the Astra nose, the sedan will also feature a less decorated rear end without the chrome eyebrows and more modern trim and upholstery choices for the interior,

The new Astra Sedan will go on sale in select European countries as well as Russia, Turkey and some other countries in the region with a similar engine lineup as the hatch and Sports Tourer models by the end of the year or in early 2013.
