In our ongoing $25k sports car poll, the Subaru BRZ has taken a clear lead with 20 percent out of more than 6,100 votes cast up until today.
Oddly enough, its Scion FR-S twin has only managed to gather 7 percent (despite being the same car), the same as the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo, which is still enough to place both higher than the Mazda MX-5 that has secured 4 percent of your votes.
Why do mention these cars specifically? Because Road&Track magazine brought together the Subaru BRZ, Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo and the MX-5 soft-top roadster to find out which of the three ticks the most boxes for enthusiasts looking for a fun, rear-wheel drive sports car without breaking the bank.
As you would expect, we won't spoil the video by telling you the outcome. However, once you've seen it, feel free to hop over to the comments section to voice your thoughts.

Now here's a worthwhile comparison worth doing.
And to all you PABs (punk as bitches)… TOLD YA SO!
:-)
Well , if my eyes dont lie when i read numbers, then winner is HYUNDAI by far...
Why is the video ban in the middle easT?
Just wish the BRZ had a few more horses. Maybe 240hp.
I still can't accept that the Golph, Fraud ST or New-Mini are sports cars, as all seem to be driven by hairdressers in the UK.
it looks like a fish
I wonder if the Miata they used in the test had the optional $500 Blistein suspension package. That would change they comments regarding the "softish" suspension and body-roll.
just wish the BRZ had a turbo
Maybe more torque for the low end, but please not a turbo! Why is every one obsessed with turbos nowadays. So it can have garbage throttle response, and crazy lag? If anything I think the car would benefit from a small supercharger, but I like her just fine the way she is!
The turbocharged cars I've driven were a blast to drive.
Turbos done right like the twin setup in my N54 335 are a blast to drive. The turbo in my previous 2.0l GTI angered me daily until I sold the car for the exact reasons Jonathon mentions. Turbo lag and horrible throttle response. These small engines are putting out great numbers right now, but the lag is not worth the higher hp rating. Unless their using some impressive twin scroll setup, I'd take a supercharger any day myself and enjoy the bottom end torque and instant throttle response.
cuz it could be used by terrorists?
Based on looks: BRZ, Genesis Coupe (close second), ....Miata.
MX-5, BRZ, Genesis Coupe: WE'RE ALL HAPPY!!!
Yep, when done right. Sizing the turbo correctly, the gearing, etc. Don't want to sound like I know a bunch about turbocharging but I guess it also depends on how much they lower the compression as well and the cam set up. Just look at all the awesome turbocharged cars out there. There are some awesome supercharged cars as well. I like both, supercharging and turbocharging. They both have pluses and minuses. Too many to generalize.
Good comparison I am glad they preferred the BRZ.
Not much of a fan of the genesis.
Glad the Miata hit 2nd also. Very predictable car and simple weekend car.
Evil Zion Jewish terrorists?
Damn your seventh grandfather.
Sorry but we MX5 owners are not all hairdressers, I do not know what car you drive but on certain roads we can make your hair stand, then you need to go to a hairdresser !!
I wonder if people are not obsessed with turbos, but they realize that Subaru has a good history of turbocharging engines and that seems a realistic possibility; that is, turbocharging is what we can realistic hope will happen. If Subaru was known for its work in supercharging, then that method of increasing horsepower from the pancake four would be mentioned instead...
BRZ!!
FWIW - you know what is going to happen. Subaru will sell a few thousand BRZs... and then release the BRZ-T 8 months later... [ wink ] BMW Does it with M-Cars, Honda with the X line...
Subaru is supposedly releasing the STi BRZ 2014 which will not sport a turbo only work done will be work to the variable valve timing system to work better with the port fueled and direct injection already In the brz aswell as a body kit and a stiffer suspension. The 2014 STi is estimated at around 260 hp although Subaru is letting out a twin scroll turbo for it aswell which will boost you about 80 hp at only 7 pounds
