It is one of a driver’s worst nightmares. You are trying to pass through a railroad crossing when for whatever reason, your vehicle is lodged on the tracks just as you hear the train coming…

This horrific scenario came to be for the driver and passenger of a tractor trailer carrying cotton bales in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, last Friday.

The driver, Michael Wilson, and an unnamed passenger were able to jump out of the vehicle in time before it was struck by the train. There were no reported injuries, according to the police.

An eyewitness to the collision described the scene to WBTV thusly: “The train went straight through, there’s a loud boom. It sounded like an explosion, the powder stuff flew everywhere,” said Kassie Lamphier.

The scene was captured on film by a by-passer, but be warned, it includes a very loud and high-pitch scream, so you may want to turn down the volume on your speakers.

The news station said that many accidents have occurred on the same crossing over the past few years, the most recent having taken place a week earlier. For now, the city has blocked the crossing with concrete barriers and will hold a public hearing in the upcoming weeks to see if it will close it for good.
