A De Tomaso Club gathering in Sweden ended in tears this past Saturday when the driver of one of the Italian sports cars lost control of his vehicle and steered into a crowd at a market in the city of Borgholm located on the island of Öland.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that the crash resulted in the injury of four bystanders, two seriously, and both the driver and the passenger of the De Tomaso who were treated for minor injuries.

The accident was caught on film by one of the onlookers.

The owner of a nearby restaurant, Kenneth Sunesson, spoke to Swedish online news portal The Local after the crash:

“I stood in the kitchen when I heard something that sounded like a real ‘burnout’. I went out to see what happened and there was a sports car that had driven into a vegetable stall, which in turn had fallen down onto an ice cream kiosk,” he said.

Sunesson added that the driver of the De Tomaso may have pressed the accelerator pedal by mistake.

“It seems as if the driver was parking and that the accelerator was pushed accidentally,” said Sunesson. “When I came out I saw two injured, one on the bonnet and one under the ice cream kiosk.”

Swedish police are currently investigating the causes of the accident.
