Jaguar Confirms 4-Cylinder Turbo and Supercharged V6 Engines for U.S.

|

The shift in consumer preferences to less thirsty, lighter and more CO2 efficient powertrains has resulted in Jaguar's response by confirming the availability of its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and 3.0-liter supercharged V6 gasoline engines for the United States.

As pointed out by Autonews, the last time the British premium carmaker offered a V6 in the States was four years ago in the X-Type while for a four-cylinder engine you will have to look back to 1948.

Currently, Jaguar's lineup in the U.S. is powered exclusively by naturally-aspirated and supercharged V8 engines.

The force-fed 2.0-liter I4 engine with direct-fuel injection is rated at 240hp and will power the new entry-level version of the 2013MY XF going up against the BMW 528i, which also sports a 240hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger.

The new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 is presented in two states of tune, depending on its application, with 380hp and 340hp. The more powerful version will find its way under the hood of next year's F-Type roadster model while the 340hp variant will be used in the 2013MY XF and XJ sedans.

Both powerplants are coupled to an 8-speed automatic as standard.

Sales of the new 2013MY Jaguars are expected to start this fall, with more details including MPG figures to be announced.
