If you live in Britain and have been eyeing a brand new Lancer EVO X, you may want to hurry up and complete your order as Mitsubishi UK’s managing director, Lance Bradley, told Autocar magazine that the all-wheel drive sports saloon will be axed from the UK once the company sells the last 10 units that remain in stock.

The Mitsubishi executive said that imports of the Evolution X have ceased now because of the increasing strength of the Japanese Yen, which eventually made it impossible for the company to continue selling the car in the UK.

Bradley noted that Mitsubishi wanted to continue to offer the sports saloon even if the company did not make any profit on the cars it sold but said it was impossible.

“We used to sell the Evo for £30k [US$46,500 or €37,900]; now we would have to charge £60k [US$93,100 or €75,800],” Bradley was quoted as saying.

The managing director added that Mitsubishi UK “is keen to be involved” in the development of the EVO X’s replacement, but before you get your hopes high, the Japanese automaker has not yet signed off the project.

Autocar said that if Mitsubishi goes ahead and green lights a successor for the EVO, it will likely be based on the next Lancer sedan but instead of a turbocharged gasoline unit, it will feature a hybrid drivetrain, perhaps even a diesel engine.
