Less than 24 hours after Mazda dropped the first photo of the all-new ‘6’ sedan, also known as Atenza in its home market of Japan, the automaker unleashed a few more photos including an image of the car’s rear end and a video containing all previously released teaser clips in one.

The Japanese company tells us that it will hold the world premiere of the 2014 Mazda6 with the 2.0-liter SkyActive model at the 2012 Moscow Motor Show in Russia (August 29 to September 9, 2012), with the complete lineup of vehicles to make their debut in late September at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

The new Mazda6 is a toned-down, production version of last year’s Takeri Concept sporting the company’s more aggressive ‘KODO’ design language that combines curves with hard lines for a dynamic look.

The mid-size model is the second Mazda after the CX-5 crossover to incorporate the full range of SKYACTIV technologies which brings a lightweight modular platform and a suite of clean gasoline and diesel engines.

On display in Moscow will be a Russian-specification version of the sedan featuring a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine coupled to a SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission.

This model will also be equipped with Mazda’s new brake energy regeneration system called i-ELOOP (“Intelligent Energy Loop”), which promises to improve fuel economy by up to 10 percent in real-world driving conditions involving frequent acceleration and braking (read more about this system here).

It is believed that the Mazda6 will also be offered with the brand’s Skyactiv 2.2-liter diesel engine with a two-stage turbocharger. In the European CX-5, the diesel is available in two flavors producing 150 HP and 380 Nm (280.2 lb-ft) or 175 HP and 420 Nm (309.7 lb-ft). Both versions of the diesel engine can be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic unit.

Mazda said it will release more information for individual markets in the fall.
