Spy Shots: Test Mule for BMW 6-Series Grand Coupe Rivaling Maserati Sports Sedan

|

We have known for some time now that Maserati plans to expand its range within the next few years with a new crossover model, previewed by the Kubang Concept, and a smaller sedan than the Quattroporte.

The latter will compete against the Audi A7, BMW 6-Series Grand Coupe and Mercedes-Benz CLS, as well as the higher end versions of the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

For the first time, our scoop photographers have captured what they claim to be an early test mule for the executive sports sedan that will sit right under the next Quattroporte, which is nearing the final stages of development.

Naturally, the first thing you will notice about this prototype is that it wears the body shell of the current generation Quattroporte, but if you take a closer look at the pictures, you will also see that the wheels, especially on the front axle, are positioned slightly off-center.

This suggests that the test mule, which was created to evaluate the new model's underpinnings, may be riding on a shorter wheelbase.

The actual production model that some sources say will be named 'Levante' is scheduled to appear towards the end of 2013 or in early 2014 and will of course feature a different design.

Powertrain options will likely include a force-fed V6 and a V8 engine, both coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission feeding the rear wheels.

Those exhausts... No me gusta.
The one who came up with the idea of having a set exhausts that conceal the divine Maserati V8 sound in towns, should be shot.

Looks a lot like a BMW, just smoother softer lines, but those taillights and rear deck lid look like a Cadillac.

Yea it sure would be awesome to hear what ever they have under the hood. Pretty much all the Italian V8's sound glorious. Is Maserati properly expanding their brand with our watering down their sporting image by creating so many models?

What the hell are you talking about?
There is no other italian V8 that sound like this. Ferarri ones are simply loud and have no character (feel free to bash me, but it's what I believe), the 4.4/4.7 Maserati V8 is something unique and you can't really compare it to anything.

And you must be smoking some bad stuff, man... What you are seeing in those pictures is the current QP body which is virtually the same shape since 2004 (except the headlights which got a facelift in 2009).
Where exactly do you see BMW smoother and softer lines with the ass of a Caddy?
