Cadillac Teases New Concept Car, What Do You Think It Is?

|

During a media gathering on the sidelines of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California on Thursday night, Cadillac briefly showed two cropped sketches of an unknown concept model.

When asked by a journalist from Autonews, a spokesman for the wreath and crest brand said that it previews a concept model that will make its world premiere during the 2013 motor show season.

Clay Dean, Cadillac director of advanced design added that the vehicle in question is an attempt for the automaker to "reflect back not for nostalgia, but what made us great at the time."

The news site attempted to ask Dean if said concept has anything to do with Cadillac's plans to introduce a flagship full-size sedan to compete against the BMW 7-Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but the design director declined to reply.

We know it's not a lot to go by, but what do you think Cadillac is preparing to show us next year? Place your answers in the comments area below.

New XLR?

Hugh Jorgan said... »August 17, 2012

Do you mean makes the concept model?  If not GM who?
What company produces concepts.....they are concepts not prototypes.

My thought also, Garret.  Probably going to be a hybrid.

American Sunroof and others build concepts.  They are not always in-house.

ASC/American Sunroof Corp.  Also build Prototypes.

ELDORADO 2013

Thanks, did not know that.

Would Cadillac use or bring back a vehicle with a name, even an iconic one?   Only the long in the tooth Escalade has a name these days.

Spamism said... »August 18, 2012

What do you think the CTS coupe is for?

Anonymous said... »August 18, 2012

Best names would be, Fleetwood or FTS, and Eldorado or ETS. Both names have been used on flagships. Eldorado Brougham in the 50's was designed to compete with Rolls Royce! I think Fleetwood for a sedan and Eldorado for a coupe would be best.

Really! said... »August 18, 2012

The CTS coupe is part of the CTS lineup of vehicles.  The Eldorado was a singular entity/model with out derivatives other then the convertible.  Example, you don't see 4-door, or long roof XLR's.

Spamism said... »August 19, 2012

Irrespective of that, the CTS coupe fufills exactly the same segment the Eldorado did; mid-size luxury coupes.

That, and "personal luxury" is dead.

Really! said... »August 19, 2012

The CTS coupe is as you stated, a mid-size luxury coupe, just like a Mercedes 'C' coupe.

The Eldorado, traditionally was the flagship model from Cadillac, there was nothing 'mid-sized about it, until the 'tenth' generation, an aberration Cadillac no doubt regrets.  A new Eldorado in keeping with its historical provenance, would be in the order of a Merc' 'E' class coupe.

"Personal Luxury is dead"   Only if you live in a hut on the side Kilimanjaro, and you can't see past the first tree.

Spamism said... »August 19, 2012

And that's where you're wrong again with the physical sizing of all the cars you mentioned.

The C-class is a compact.
The E-class is a mid-size.
The ATS is a compact.
The CTS is a mid-size.
The CTS coupe is a mid-size.

It really isn't that difficult.

Tradtion is utterly meaningless anyway. Also if you're going to pitch a S-class sized coupe, then you're out of luck because nobody is going to cross-shop ANY Cadillac against a Drophead or a Continental; hence, personal luxury is dead. Too few cars being sold to too few buyers at too high a price. It simply isn't worth Cadillac's time and effort to even bother with such a car.

The view is damn clear from up here BTW.

..."What Do You Think It Is? "...

Well, don't mind me guessing....but uh....I think it's a car. A Caddilac and to be more specific ...ít's a concept :)

Really: You should at least have expected one dumb answer...

Relax, this is not a life and death issue...  or maybe it is.

Your position, held with  death grip,  regarding the 'C' class Merc' is right(which apparently is very important to your psyche), and wrong.

It depends on whose classification you use.  According to the 'NHTSA', the Merc' 'C' class is a 'PC/Me'.    'Passenger Car_ Medium Size'

Depending on other classifying institutions, it falls into other categories.  When cars first started being classified, a compact was, well, compact.  Think Capri, Celica, Cortina, Corvair, Opel 'Manta', Falcon, Nova, etc. Today the size of the compact class has grown, probably due to the growing size of its operators and occupants.

ACRISS  classification  for Merc' 'C' class,  is 'J' class, Intermediate(medium) Elite

I don't have time today to research the labyrinthine of EURO 'NCAAP', or other agencies classifications, I have a car to cut in half.

So I'm sure from past behavior that this response will engender additional cussing by you.

It was designed to make Spamism  & Really! have the most incredably funny  back and forth since Curly & Moe.

Spamism said... »August 20, 2012

Cussing? Me? No.

There is no need to consult safety institutes. You simply need a measuring tape. Record lenght, width, and height of one car, and simply find comprible cars that are within 1 standard devation. What's left is the physical definition of a car per the segment it repersents and all cars within the segment.

You're really overthinking this, AND desperately trying to get an edge over me.

We'll I'm glad that we're both making someone out there laugh.

Cheers.

Whatever it is it may get "longest tail light" award, as the lamp seems to extend forward to C pillar.  Will the head lamp assembly end at the A pillar?  How about an optional strip under the windows that transitions from clear/amber to red.  (Like the Catera trunk piece, but longer & thinner.)  I'm holding out for a concept that does away entirely w/ the body: one bullit shape form on wheels that starts clear at the leading edge & fades to red at the trailing end.

Really! said... »August 29, 2012

Really?  Did you even bother to look at any of the links?

Once again...>  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_size_class#Japan

Your ego has you needing to win, I'm about correct information right or wrong.  No over blown ego required.  Another 'Sand Box' mentality.

And that 'like' was supposed to be a 'reply'.   Hope your ego can handle that.
