We received word today that Domino’s Pizza in partnership with Local Motors has launched a new campaign asking consumers to help design and build the “Ultimate Delivery Vehicle”.

Many professions use uniquely designed vehicles to cover their specialized needs, so we don’t see why the pizza delivery business should differ.

Domino’s partner in this project is Local Motors, which is a Phoenix-based open source, community-driven automobile designer and manufacturer.

The competition calls for consumers and enthusiasts to submit a design idea by visiting a dedicated webpage at “ultimatedeliveryvehicle.com” with more details to be found at the Local Motors website. According to the company, those interested can take part in several stages of the design competition including exterior, packaging, interior and surfacing.

“Part of the excitement of this campaign is that none of us is really sure how the design will end up, or what it will feature,” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s Pizza chief marketing officer.

“But one thing is for certain: we are always striving to get better – and while we are known as the delivery experts, we aren’t stopping there when it comes to ensuring the best pizza delivery experience possible for our customers,” he added.

If being creative isn’t enough of an incentive, the pizza making company said that it will be handing out more than $50,000 in prizes (not pizzas) throughout the competition stages to consumers who submit ideas and designs to the website.

In addition, if any of you want to propose an existing model that could make a perfect base for a pizza delivery vehicle head over to the comments section to voice your thoughts.
