Google Maps Gone Wrong? Street View Car Found Wrecked in India

|

It's not every day that you stumble upon an abandoned Google StreetView Camera Car in the middle of nowhere. And since you are bound to ask, by 'nowhere' we mean down a rocky hill in the Leh district of northern India.

An unidentified man who sounds like he has an American or a Canadian accent captured a film of the aftermath. The video shows the high standing camera-equipped Opel Astra hatchback (previous generation) facing down the hill with its front smashed up on the rocks.

Another young man in the video is shown throwing rocks on the German model. We don't know if these men discovered the car by accident or if they were actually the drivers.

What we did find is additional photos of the crash on a one Pit Kellers' Flickr account, which you can check out here: Link1, Link2 and Link3.

As always, if any of you happen to have more details surrounding the incident, shoot us an email or head over to the comments area.

This looks totaly fake.

The proportions is wrong in the video. And the lightning scream "render" in the photos.

Anyway the car is already "dead." is an act of cowardice.

Funny how the rear fascia remained undamaged and wasn't torn off by the rocks, or how the small plant behind the car doesn't have any branches folded under the car.

I declare this a fake.

That's why drivers following GPS run off the road and crash- they were following the instructions!

OK, who zoomed in that much on the desert?

The high res Flickr photos look pretty convincing to me.

However it doesn't look like it crashed recently. I'm sure these cars are as disposable to google as any other things they own are, so the effort of recovering this was probably too much.

Since it has a registration plate it shouldn't take too much effort to work out what country it is from...

How infantile is throwing rocks at a car? Really? Acting out rage against the Man? ...and he throws like a 9-yr old girl :/

Blame the Google Astra "crash" on the road crossing...Sacred Cow.

Charles James said... »August 09, 2012

If only Google had been here earlier to map the streets, their car would not have crashed. Chicken or the egg situation, I guess.

Locate a local seller, such as an auto store. Look at the models they have available; some may be hooked up to a power source so you can check the camera and screen quality. Ask a worker or salesperson about the devices, which he recommends and why.
