Jeep Enhances 2013 Grand Cherokee Lineup with SRT8 Alpine and Vapor Special Editions [w/Video]

|

With less than a year on the market, there was really no reason for Chrysler LLC to make any substantial changes to the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 for the 2013MY so instead, the Detroit carmaker added two new special edition models to the range called 'Vapor' and 'Alpine'.

The two new models are one and the same with the difference being that the Alpine is dressed in a "bright white" finish for the body while the Vapor in a "brilliant black" color.

Both models benefit from the addition of 20-inch wheels with black chrome finish and gloss black exterior appointments including hood badge, Grand Cherokee door logo, front grille surround and inserts, and a rear light bar and step pad.

There are no under-the-hood upgrades with the two special edition SRT8s being powered by the standard 6.4-liter Hemi V8 delivering 471hp (477PS) and 465 lb.-ft. (630 Nm) of torque.

Jeep quotes a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the mid-16 second range, the quarter mile in the mid-13 second range, a top speed of 160 mph (257km/h), and braking from 60-0 mph (96-0km/h) in 116 feet (35.4m).

The 2013 Grand Cherokee SRT8 has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $59,995 (plus $925 destination), while Jeep commands a $2,495 premium for the Alpine and Vapor special edition packages that brings the total to $62,490 or $63,415 with destination.

I'm still hung up on the moose story.  Apparently, not all Elk Tests are designed the same.  I wonder why this story received virtually no coverage.

Either way, that SRT in Alpine trim is tight.

In the "moose" test, the GC was overloaded beyond it's safety limits.  I guess nobody reads their owners manual anymore.  Don't use (or abuse) a vehicle by using it in a way that will cause an unsafe situation.  Any vehicle can be made unsafe when pushed beyond it's intended use.

No offense, but You don't have a clue as to what you are talking about F10. My husband was a professional race car driver & he's on his 3rd Grand Cherokee SRT8 & says they handle really well. GREAT SUV!
