New 2013 Camry SE Sport Limited Edition is Anything but "Sport"

|

The word "Sport" has become one of the most abused terms in the auto industry by far, and this new edition of the 2013 Toyota Camry is a prime example.

What the Japanese carmaker describes as "Sport Limited Edition" is a mid-trim level Camry fitted with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 178-horses.

You might be thinking that if not the mechanical hardware, then perhaps the equipment package will justify the "Sport" term. Wrong. What this package adds is 18-inch alloy wheels in a smoked finish, 8-way power seat, power sunroof, and Display Audio (6.1-inch touchscreen) with Navigation and Entune.

Granted, the larger wheels could be classified in the "sports" category, but there's nothing remotely "athletic" about a power sun roof and driver's seat…

According to Toyota, the Camry SE Sport is available in these exterior colors: Barcelona Red, Attitude Black, and for the first time on this latest generation of the Camry, Blizzard Pearl that is combined with a black or black/ash interior.

The MSRP for the 2012 Camry Sport Limited Edition excluding a destination and handling fee is $25,995.

Geez, I am not surprised, it has only 3 wheels!

Doh.. it's sport because of the black interior.
You can't call a car with beige interior sport, can you?

That doesn't look very sporty.
I have a 2003 Camry SE. The SE package included a rear spoiler, sunroof & fog lamps. The pictured Camry clearly doesn't have a spoiler

So for about the same price, i can get a Hyundai Sonata "SE" with a 2.0 turbo, and almost 100 more horsepower? Common Toyota, get back in touch with reality!

I think the next time as ask for my bros to pass a puff, I will specify.  I want the JAPANESE GANJA that the folks at Toyota smoke.  Apparently it is the most potent on the planet.

My laundry basket looks more sporty...

...and it will sell in droves to people who wanted something practical *and* sporty...

My favorite example of automotive "sport" was the late 90's Dodge 2500 Dually Sport. It meant you got everything on the gigantic, six-wheeled farm truck painted the same color. Very sporty.

It should also have a hybrid in the trunk - then with the added "eco" in the name it would cover 100% of the market :) :)

I just sold my sonata 2012 loosing 4000 bucks just because the suspension was terrible and very noise. After 2 years if you get 60 % of what you pay, you will be very lucky

Yeah, if you feel like disregarding safety and trade in value.

Does 65 mph in the cones, same as new GTI! I'd say that makes it pretty sporty-drive much?

All the more reason not to wait for a 13 Camry. Done deal. Going with the 13 Fusion.

Bought a 2012 Camry SE in June 2012. Owned a 2007 corolla before this one. I have discovered Toyota makes great cars for the price. Had absolutely no repair issues with the 07. I had many GM & Ford cars including luxury models, and there were always repair issues during and after the warranty period. You get a quite a good auto for the money you spend with the Toyota brand. I heard from the street these Toyota cars will last forever if you maintain them correctly.

considering the non-sport Accord EX CVT does it in 65.8, not very sporty...I've driven both...to be quite honest, I could easily fall asleep driving a Camry, not just because of it's comfort, but because it is so bleeding boring...like old people fornicating. The Accord on the other hand at least feels like it drives good.

Careful with the rubber band in the tranny could break if you're hot rodding and good luck cleaning the top end 100k later with DI !

Hey look, a misinformed article.

The Sport Edition adds upgraded suspension over the L, LE, and XLE Camry, upgraded tires, and a differently tuned EPS that is less boosted to offer more road feel.

The Limited Edition is an appearance package on top of the SE I4 trim, that adds what the SE V6 has, without having to buy the V6. The upgraded wheels also come with stickier and wider summer tires. (The same ones found on the SE V6)
