Even though there’s no way of telling just by looking at the all-new 2013 Nissan Pathfinder SUV and Altima sedan and the 2013 Infiniti JX crossover, but all three models share the same platform architecture.

Given that Nissan has long confirmed the development of a new hybrid powerplant for the 2013 Altima that will comprise a 2.5-liter supercharged inline-four gasoline engine linked to a compact CVT package incorporating a single electric motor and two clutches plus a lithium-ion battery, it’s only reasonable to believe that it could be offered on the Pathfinder.

Well, despite the fact that Nissan agrees that a Pathfinder Hybrid makes a lot of sense in more ways than one, the company’s executives have yet to decide on the move.

“We’re studying alternative power sources for the future, and while it would make sense to offer alternative power sources in trucks and SUVs more so than in small cars, we have no comment or announcement at this time,” Tom Smith, chief marketing manager-Nissan trucks and SUVs told Wards Auto.

When asked by the news site, Smith also refused to talk about any plans to offer a hybrid variant on the firm’s upcoming replacement for the Rogue.
