Smart Ad Finds Plastic Surgery Addicts That Should Feel Jealous of ForTwo's Facelift

|

German advertising agency BBDO Proximity Berlin is walking on a pretty thin line with its commercial for the cosmetically updated 2012 Smart ForTwo that was originally revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The TV spot shows half a dozen people who underwent extensive plastic surgery to change their appearance before a tagline saying, "There is an exciting new facelift in town" pops up on the screen and the revamped ForTwo is revealed.

There are short (30 seconds) and long (1-minute) versions of the commercial in English and German languages, both of which you can watch in the videos after the break.

Everything, including the car, makes me want to heave.

This is the most misconceived adversising campaign ever. The most obvious thing about all those hideous people is that they have had lip enhancement, which is injections not a facelift. And the women have silicone bags put in their breasts, which is also not a facelift. An actual facelift is not necessarily such a bad thing, but a good one doesn't really show, but just reverses a bit of aging.

Seriously, what were they thinking? Not only does the bizarreness of the humans completetly upstage the new look of the Smart, but it conveys the message that the changes in the car are just stupid and useless and don't improve the vehicle at all.

Besides, the blonde women is I think Amanda Lepore, who used to be a man, and her look is as dependent on tons of makeup as on surgery.

The point is, that we actually talk about it. Doesn't matter if we hate or love it.

Agreed Mark, and ....> The point is ... That there are good face lifts and....Bad ones.  Ours is a good one and has nothing in common with the other kind..  Of course that is subjective, depends on the perspective of the viewer

Were those mentally unstable dimwits told they were going to be ridiculed in an international ad campaign?

It's just supposed to be catchy. Nothing more, nothing less. And it works beautifully.
