It appears that Jaguar is trying to capitalize on the interest surrounding its newest sports car after the first official image of the F-Type made the internet rounds on Wednesday by reminding us that the roadster will debut in a week's time at the Paris Auto Show, and more importantly, by sharing a new video.
The new film released today includes footage of the British brand's vehicle dynamics team testing a craftily camouflaged pre-production model in the UK, Germany and Italy. In one instance, we see the speedometer's needle surpassing the 180mph (290km/h) mark.
Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity at Jaguar, had this to say about the F-Type and in particular, its performance and handling credentials:
"Fundamentally, a great sports car is one you'll look forward to driving because it's fun, and the F-TYPE definitely delivers on that score. We've worked hard to make sure that responses to steering, throttle and brakes are absolutely immediate, a task made far easier by the rigid aluminium structure at the car's base. It's precise and exciting, a car that you'll want to drive for the sake of driving alone - and it sounds fantastic!"
Before you head over the break to watch the video, allow us to remind you that the front-engined, rear-wheel drive convertible, will be offered in three models powered respectively by 335Hp (340PS) and 375Hp (380PS) versions of Jaguar's new 3.0-litre V6 supercharged gasoline engine and a new derivative of its 5.0-litre V8 supercharged unit.

Doesn't say which engine they are using, but I assume that's the supercharged V-6, and it sounds pretty damn good, way better than the new Dodge Viper. It also looks completely flat and neutral through the corners, impressive.
Historically, Jaguar was famous for it's inline sixes but I do have a problem with V6's in a Jaguar. I suppose that is progress but in serious performance cars only Nissan and Porsche are using sixes of any kind. I am not sure that traditional Jaguar buyers will lay out that kind of money for six cylinders- of course I am getting old and 4 of our 6 cars have 12 cylinders and only one has 6 cylinders and that is a jeep!
