New Peugeot 208 Meets 205 GTi on Film [Updated]

|

A new video that has surfaced online brings together the freshly revealed Peugeot 208 GTi regular 208 with the 1980s/1990s 205 GTi.

Watching the (mediocre-quality) clip, we can't help but appreciate the timeless beauty of the 205's styling, especially when compared to the fussy and somewhat bulbous design of the newer 208.

Under the skin, the flagship version of Peugeot supermini, the 208 GTi, employs the PSA Peugeot-Citroen and BMW Group co-developed 1.6-liter turbocharged four that's good for an output of 197hp (200PS) and peak torque of 275Nm (203 lb-ft).

The 205 GTi was available at its time with two naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engines, a 1.6-liter unit initially rated at 104hp (105PS) and then at 115hp (117PS), and 1.9-liter version producing 126hp (128PS) and later on, 120hp (122PS) with a catalytic converter.

Correction: As it turns out, the deceptive title of the video fooled us, as the 205 GTi didn't meet its direct successor but a lesser version of the 208 series. Thanks to all those who brought it to our attention.

This is not a 208 GTI. It's a regular 208. ;)

I know which I'd rather have and which would be a more entertaining drive...

The 205 GTI is nice, why is there a crappy gray blob following it ?

Taking a closer look at the details (lack of twin tailpipes, the body colored mirror caps etc.)  you're right - it's one of the regular 208s. Thanks for pointing that out.

You can never please anyone Peugeot...especially sheeple, keep shining, some of us who know that the only constant is change will understand the meaning of introducing different cars with different characteristics...people are still crying over an almost 30 year old  model, I'm 30 years old and I don't how people in their 40's (assuming this is the youngest generation of original 205 driver) could be so juvenile, anyone around my age and younger should understand the benefits and constraints of technology as well...but I figure a massive amount of all these naysayers don't own a Peugeot never mind even owning a 205 GTi ...I will not conform.

wow we have an automotive expert here people...please tell us where the 208 GTi falls short...I'm assuming you work for PSA since your intimate and conclusive knowledge about the two cars is seemingly versed, I can only guess and say you are one of the testing engineers, since the 208 GTi is not out yet.
