Well, no matter what they called it, the CLS brought Mercedes-Benz a nice profit thanks to its sales success and actually launched a brand-new niche, forcing Audi and BMW to follow suit with the A7 Sportback and the Gran Coupe respectively.
Three months ago, the three-pointed star released the CLS Shooting Brake. In Mercedes talk, it’s “quite clearly a coupe, but with five doors and a roof which continues through the rear”. Go figure…
If you ask us, it’s just an estate version of the CLS for those who want the extra boot room and practicality but find the E-Class Wagon not stylish enough for their taste.
There’s no denying that the range-topping CLS 63 AMG, a…"five-door coupe station wagon" with a 5.5-liter bi-turbocharged V8 that drives the rear wheels, makes for an interesting proposition.
