The only sane reason we can think of why someone would take a Porsche Boxster and attempt a crude recreation of a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster is that the owner had a heavily damaged example of the Stuttgart-based carmaker's mid-engine model lying around and decided to get mechanically and cosmetically creative – or so to speak.
Regardless the reason that gave birth to the idea, the project remains unfinished despite changing several hands (we wonder why….). The person selling the car on eBay states that he was offered the Murcielago-stein as part of a trade deal.
Some basic details about the car include that it is based on a 2001 Boxster with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine that has covered 51,382 miles (82,673 kilometers), and that in order to replicate the proportions of the Lamborghini model, the donor car was cut and stretched by approximately 10 inches (254 mm).
Last time we looked on eBay, there were two bids, the highest of which was $15,600 (roughly €12,000).
Below you will find a detailed description of the car and the condition it is in from its current owner.
eBay Seller's Description:
This awesome looking Porsche boxster rebody can make a fun car for the mechanical type person. This car is titled and driven and insured as a 2001 boxster. This is not an easy replica to build, On a good note there are a lot of things done already, however in the big picture I would say the car is less then 50% completed.
This is a 2001 porsche boxster which has been cut and stretched 10 inches for this body kit to fit onto it correctly. The doors have power windows and are hinged and working. The door skins are only held on by screws right now, in one of the pictures where I have removed the skin you can see what they have done underneath the skin. The hood hinges are on the hood but not welded to the body of the car.
The rear trunk area is hinged and working well with struts to hold it open, but no latch to lock it closed. The far rear trunk is hinged and working also with struts to hold it open and it has a latch and lock. The rear tail light lenses are just there for show but they are not installed, same with the front lights.
ALL parts in these pictures are included. What you see is what you get. There is a lambo replica interior, as pictured, none of the interior is attached. Please email or call with any questions.
I did not build this car, And I do not build these type of cars, I took this in on trade cheap, So I am going to sell it cheap. Minimum price is $15,000. You will not find this complete of a setup for anything close to this price. This car was sitting for 3 years before traded to me, So I did empty the gas tank and put in new gas, After that I had to cut the fan belt because the AC compressor was locked up. The car now starts right up and runs perfect, but will need an AC compressor. I would not drive it far until this is fixed because it will overheat as there is no water pump belt as the AC belt is the same one.
To answer many questions about driving the car I will say "NO YOU CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR HOME EVEN IF YOU FIX THE BELT , THE FRONT WINDSHIELD IS NOT GLUED IN, THE INTERIOR IS NOT ATTACHED, THE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK, YES ALL OF THE WIRING IS THERE AND CAN BE HOOKED UP FOR LIGHTS ECT.. HOWEVER YOU WILL NEED TO SPEND 1000 OR SO HOURS TO COMPLETE THIS CAR AND DRIVE IT. "
This car currently lot runs and drives, it will drive onto a transport trailer, or around a shop or property, but not on the roads. The engine does sound very good and does not drip oil or blow any smoke at all. I would be willing to remove the complete body kit with all of its lambo parts from the boxster and sell that setup for less, I could use the boxster for another project. The car is located in Palm Bay, Florida and can be inspected with appointment.
